Jellyfish/Cancun Hilton

My family and I are going in late July and staying at the Hilton since my husband has alot of points to use. Is the beach nice at the resort and how rough will the waves be? My children are 9 and 12. Will there be jellyfish at that time? My daughter is terrified after being stung multiple times while in Florida! Any advice on good snorkeling spots near Cancun would also be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Our family has been to Cancun every July for the past 5 years. We have never seen any jellyfish at all in the water there.

If you daughter is terrified of the water because of jellyfish, get her some "dive skins" to wear. This is a very lightweight lycra one-piece suit with long sleeves and long legs. We wear them all the time when snorkeling or diving. Its great protection from the sun as well as water creatures. You can buy skins for children at several dive catalogue locations (like www.diversdirect.com) for about $60. You could also just use a dance leotard (maybe get one used at Once Upon A Child or cheap at Target) which is virtually the same thing or leggings and a long sleeve tee shirt. They all work as protection. My good friend and snorkel buddy got stung multiple times in Roatan and its no fun. We all bought skins after that. Tell your daughter she'll look like a real dive pro. You probably won't see jellyfish, but why let her worry? Hope this helps.

Don't know about the waves in July, just depends on the weather. Caribbean side can get rough but the beach there is wide and beautiful, with maybe a couple of rocks. The pool area is fantastic and the service is great. have fun!
