Itinerary help - Panama to Corcovado National Park

12 nights Panama City - Canal - Boquete- Corcovado - Bocas - (???) - Panama City

Can we do this?

I will be arriving in Panama City for 12 nights sometime during the 1st week of April. We will be spending our 1st night in Panama and will be visiting the Canal.

Then to Boquete for 2 nights with a visit to the volcano.

From there we were thinking of going to Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica for 3 nights but unsure if we can take a rental car through the border and how long it would take from Boquete or if we are overextending ourselves. Im having a very hard time figuring out how to get there from Panama. If anyone has travelled from Panama, would love to hear your story. We would really like to see Corcovado.

Then we would take a drive/boat to Bocas del Toro for 2 or 3 nights. We are unsure what place we should go to next from Bocas to Panama and would love to hear your suggestions.

If you happen to know how long it would take from each place that would really be great. I don't want to drive more than 6 hours from each place and flying seems way to expensive and Im a little nervous about small planes. We drove all over Costa Rica and didnt have a problem with the roads or tico drivers and really enjoyed it.

I appreciate your help...thanks!!!

It's an insurance issue. You can't cross the border with a rental vehicle.

Definitely I'd just stick to Panama this trip. You've got a full itinerary there for 12 days. Would spend a little more time in PC and canal area, more in Boquete (at least another day). Bocas del Toro is good for at least 3 nights (4 was just right for us), and from there you might consider the San Blas islands.

Actually, I think I'd narrow it down to 3 locations and select either Bocas or San Blas.

Corcovado throws a real kink into a Panama itinerary. I'd plan a separate trip to Costa Rica with the intention of visiting the Osa Peninsula. Highly recommend Bosque del Cabo. Many people who have visited both say that wildlife at BdC with its extensive trail systems is even more prevalent than in Corcovado.

PC Boquete Golfito

Take Tica Bus and once in Golfito...you can take the passenger ferry boat "La Lancha"crosses the Golfo Dulce...between...Golfito and Puerto Jimenez..leaves around 6am...fare about $1,75.

then San Jose Sixaola Bocas PC

Nice lots of Bus but fun

if you like adventure...

www.natureair.com flies to Bocas

from San Jose

Not doable with rental car...

Have fun,

I agree with shillmac. It would take a huge amount of choreography to tack Corcovado onto a Panama trip. It would definitely violate your "no more than six hours between places" rule.

Another reason to keep things simpler: Holy Week is April 5-12. A lot of other people, local and foreign, will be traveling during that time.

Corcovado is an amazing place, but I'd save it for another time.
