Isla Mujeres Xmas
My husband, 13-year old son and I will be staying in Isla Mujeres at the Cristalmar for a week over Christmas. Does anyone have tips on things to do on Isla Mujeres or on easy day trips to the mainland. Also, does anyone have suggestions for celebrating Christmas? Will restaurants be open? Should we be getting reservations now? Thanks. Cindi

Sounds like a great time!
As for day trips, I recommend doing one of those boat trips over to Isla Contoy, the "island of birds". It's a fun day. The boat usually stops on the reef for a little snorkling, they cook out on the beach, then you just hang out on the island for a while, checking out all the pelicans and frigate birds. An interesting place.
You could also do a Mayan ruin. The best is Chichen Itza, but it's a bit far. Coba is fun if you're adventurous. Tulum is easy and people love the brilliant scenery.
Lots more...
Have fun!

Thanks Dan and Ginny, I've e-mailed for your brochure and have checked out IM-Net, which is a fabulous sight. The main thing that I am still curious about is the Christmas holidays on the Island and whether retaurants will be closed and how much preplanning I should do for Xmas and xmas eve.

Have not been there for Christmas but it is about the busiest week of the year next to easter. They are not about to let you go without food. It is my understanding that most shops and some restaurants are closed that day.
You will be able to find places to eat.
