Is Columbia safe for a party of 12 guys?
Hi there,
We are looking at the possibility of travelling to Columbia for 7 nights for my brother's bachelor party in June.
Is this a wise choice?
Where would you recommend we stay and go?
Thanks,
Nik akapartyman

Colombia has an astronomical crime rate which includes lots of kidnappings. There are lots of other good choices for a week's bachelor party. You might want to talk to the other memebers of the party and then do some research on what's right for the group.

The question is - where in Colombia?
The Canadian Government presently considers San Andres Island and Cartagena as safe as any place in Caribbean.
Whereas, the American government advises against visiting Colombia.
Also, a bit curious, why did you choose Colombia over XXXX?

I have traveled to Colombia several times, to different regions, and never had a problem. It's a beautiful country and some of the most beautiful women are from Colombia.
Take the same precautions you would in any big city and you'll be fine.
It's too bad people go by the bad propaganda and the inaccuracies in the media rather than expressing an informed opinion.
I'd go to Cartagena, and go on a "Chiva" (open bus full of party people, full bar, with a band in the back).
The local drink is called aguardiente - watch out translates to fire water - enjoy

I would definately recommend Cartegena. You could then get a minibus to Rodedero or Santa Marta for a few dollars.
I live in Colombia with my 3 year old son - I wouldn't be here if it were that dangerous!

Latest is that beautiful guerrila girls are cruising bars for "party boys",kidnap them take them deep in the mountains and are not releesed til a big ramson is paid to the revolutionary cause. And do not expect this stay in the mountain to be pleasurable experience...money or ????

I am as white as you get and have had the best experiences in Colombia over the past two years. I am getting married in Cartagena next February to a Colombian and would highly recommend spending time either Bogota or Cartagena. Amazing country with amazing people. Follow the same rules you would in your own city. Stay in the right areas and you are fine. Enjoy!!!
