Interbus in Liberia
I am arriving in Liberia CR and would like to use interbus to get to arenal. Has anyone done this before? I was hoping to find an interbus pickup at the airport, but it does not seem to exist. There are mostly hotels and a restaurant listed.....does anyone know which of the choices is closest to the airport? If not, is there another reasonably priced alternative to get from the LIberia airport out to arenal? Thanks!

Hi,
Interbus works all of Costa Rica. Have you been on their website. www.interbusonline.com
I just had friends come here and they had interbus pick them up at the airport and take them to hotels, and arenal and other places without any problems.
Call them. I know they will pick you up where ever you are!
Hope this helps

ionicbond,
Interbus does pick up in Liberia and drive to Arenal; it's not a heavy-traffic route for some reason so I had the tour director at my hotel in San Jose arrange the transfer for me. It cost me $45 one way Liberia to Arenal and it took about 3 hours.
I don't know which of the hotels in downtown Liberia are Interbus drop off/pick up points but when I stayed in the Rincon de la Vieja area, I had to arrange a private transfer from my hotel (a 45-minute drive from downtown Liberia) to another hotel called El Sitio and Interbus picked me up from there.

Thanks! I contacted Interbus, and they told me they do not pick up at the Liberia Airport, that it must be a hotel. Do you happen to know which hotel is closest to the airport?
Also, sorry to ask another question, but my flight arrives around 12:10 and the Interbus leaves from various destinations around 3pm...do you think I will have enough time to get to the hotel and not miss the bus?

I think you should find out what time Interbus is making the rounds and then get to the last pick up hotel. I don't remember how long exactly it takes to get from the airport to downtown Liberia but allow for at least an hour. I think you can take a cab or an airport shuttle to a hotel from the airport, but again, find out which hotel Interbus picks up from and then find out whether that hotel has a courtesy shuttle of their own or whether an airport shuttle will drop you off there.
The hotel I stayed in last time had a shuttle of their own that would pick you up from the airport and take you to the hotel directly but they were charging something like $60-$75 for a one-way ride. Allow at least an hour after you land to navigate through the airport to the shuttle or cab, so if you land at 12:10 pm, you should be curbside by 1 pm and if Interbus picks up at 3 pm from the last hotel on their route, you should enough time to make it.
