Has anyone been to Iguazu Falls recently? We were planning on spending two days there in mid-August, however after seeing yesterday's news report, we are having second thoughts. It said that due to the worst drought in 20 years, Iguazu falls is reduced to a "trickle". Apparently only about 80,000 gallons per second are flowing rather than the normal flow of 350,000 to 400,000 gallons. Any first-hand knowledge?

It has not been reduced to a trickle, but it is very low at the moment. It should get better around the end of September, so I would try and wait if possible.

At its fullest, it is very impressive.

Is this for real?!

I am due there the second week of August! I paid for my flight and everything!

Is this going to be a major bust?

Is it possible to cancel my Aerolineas flights or exchange them for another destination? Would you?

I was just there last week. We had a great time and thought it was spectacular. I know the flow is less than usual, but I wouldn't change my plans.

Seeing your post reminds me of your honeymoon planning just a couple of years ago. I'm sure your trip to Iguazu Falls will be spectacular! Have a wonderful time. . . .

Just wanted to post a quick note as we just returned today from Iguazu. The falls are definitely way lower than usual, but still pretty amazing. The devil's throat area is still great, though there are areas along the various catwalks that would obviously have been amazing falls but they are completely dry. I would still recommend going as the area is beautiful and the falls that are flowing are great. With a little rain, will be much better though.

I was there about a 2 weeks ago. What we saw was nothing like the pictures you see! Except for the Devil's Throat, it was really, really dry.

In fact, we were told that it is the driest it has been in 30 years. The locals told us it was exciting for them to see it so dry. Yeah, right.

While I'm sure all of this will change shortly down the road, in their current condition, Niagara has them beat hands down.
