Hotel Punta Leona

Anybody have any opinions on this place? It looks like a resort, which might be fun for our kids for a few days? Requires a three day minimum at the Selvamar bungalos? Anybody familiar with these? Is this place a good alternative to Manuel Antonito?

We spent 3 nights over Christmas in a Selvamar Room at Punta Leona. Each unit in the Selvamar complex has 4 rooms, with no adjoining walls, so quite soundproof. From there to the reception is a pleasant 5 minute walk (but the shuttle bus is available anytime). We walked (could have taken the hotel shuttle) to Playa Blanca Beach which is just beautiful, and has an excellent change room facility. The 6.15a.m. bird walk was very good, but wear sturdy shoes (snakes and mud). P. Leona is a good base to explore Carara (just few miles north). Wouldn't have wanted more than 3 nights there - P. L is a huge gated community. Food was ok in the 2 restaurants we ate in, staff all very friendly. E-mail me if you need more details. Rosi.

Each Selvamar room has a large golf umbrella - came in very handy in an incredible downpour. [email protected]

Does anyone know how far in terms of distance and time this hotel is from Villa Caletas? I am going to several wedding events at the Caletas but would like to stay here since it is half the price.

We stayed one night at the Hotel Punta Leona, was scheduled for 3, but I was very displeased. Before I go on, I typically try to find the positives in almost anything.

Yes, it is a gated community. It reminded me of a retirement community. Different types of accomadations grouped together all over a very large area. Groups of Bungalows were crowded together around a central courtyard area. Rooms were quite musty smelling, and very dark, with very small windows.

Many of the buildings were literally falling in, when we were there in 2002.

Much of the terrain was flat, therefore offering no views.

Not at all the kinds of places that are typical of CR.

It did however have a convenient store and the one meal we ate was quite good.

Sorry, but not some place I would return to. We prefer small intimate hotels and lodges.
