I will be traveling to Buenos Aires in May and am having trouble deciding between a few hotels: Bel Air, Art Hotel and Bobo. I will be in BA for 10 days, so I could stay at more than one hotel to experience the different barrios, if advised. Would it make sense to stay in Recoleta at Bel Air or Art Hotel for a week and then in Palermo at Bobo for a few days? Also, any help in choosing between the Bel Air Hotel and Art Hotel would be appreciated. The Bel Air Hotel's rates are going up in May ($270 for regular room and $315 for Superior). I'm not sure how much of the rave reviews for the Bel Air were because of the formerly bargain prices. And, is a Superior room worth US$15 more per night? Please help. Thank you!

P.S. Is it worth spending any nights at NH Jousten, or is downtown better left for business travelers?

I returned from Argentina a couple weeks ago. I spent 9 nights in BA; 7 were in Retiro at the Dazzler and liked it alot -nice comfortable rooms, good amenities, friendly helpful staff. Also, very well located to walk to alot in the center, as well as Teatro Colon, Sante Fe & Florida Sts. I also walked to Recoleta (other direction from center). Then I spent 2 nights in Palermo, at the Otra Orilla B & B - charming, friendly, & inexpensive. I was very glad I split the time in the different sections. I could just walk out the B & B door in a quiet, neighborhood setting and find boutiques, cafes, and restaurants with a very different ambience (and more international gourmet cuisine)than in the heart of the city. Sightseeing in the area was much easier than if I had to travel to get there, so my time was better utilized. I'drecommend splitting your time in different areas.

HI, I believe that is a good idea to try two different locations. I can speak for the Bel Air because I stayed there also of the B and B La Otra Orilla, I did not stay there but I visited it.
I liked very much the Bel Air, it is worth it to pay a bit more and get a superior room because they are larger have two nice tall French windows , are on higher floors and also quieter. A much better choice.
Regarding rates for the Hotel try a travel agent, I also use Cintia at [email protected] the way it works in Argentina is that travel agents get wholesale prices and the pass part of the discount to their clients.
I would stay first at the Bel Air and they see for myself if I would prefer or not to move.

Ref La Otra Orilla I thought it was charming.

I visited Five, 2 weeks ago to promote my Nautical Tours in the Tigre Delta area. I usually work w / Malabia house .
Been told Five is owned by the ex manager of BoBo.The place looks great . Dónt know about the food , in BoBo is excellent.
I can recommend La Otra Orilla ( not the level of BOBO or Malabia House ) but very good and cheaper www.otraorilla.com.ar . The owner Mrs Cecilia is very nice.
In the Recoleta area , try Hotel Plaza
Francia ( about U$S 120 double room) www.hotelplazafrancia.com

I agree with Santiago regarding La Otra Orilla however I prefer by far Bel Air Hotel than Hotel Plaza francia, providing you ask for a superior room. I loved the Bel Air is a nice boutique hotel

The plaza francia at $120 is way too pricey. The Plaza Francia is simply not that good a hotel, although it enjoys a great location. Graziella is right, the BelAir is much better option. Otra Orilla is a good lower priced alternative....

That is not a problem in that area. The characteristic of Palermo is the endless number of good restaurants all types, all budgets.
the rates are very similar to the bobo`s which has an excellent restaurant inside. that is what people who have stayed there say.
