Honeymoon in Puerta Vallarta, HELP PLEASE!
My soon to be wife finally agreed on PV due to the positive comments from all of you! Thanks everyone. We don't need to go right after we get married in mid-may (unless that's a good time). That leads to my question.... What is a good time to go for weather conditions? Where should we stay if we're looking for a balcony overlooking sunsets and near some of the "happenning" spots in PV (we are in our early 30's). I would love to hear recommendations from all price ranges. Thanks in advance for all of your help. I will search other threads for dining rec's.

May would be a fine time. Generally speaking the weather is best from about November thru May, with the summer months into fall being the rainy season (which is still nice but hotter with more chance for rain).
What you describe sounds like any of the hotels on the main local beach called Playa Los Muertos (balconies with sunsets). Maybe try for a condo there? That is on the south side sometimes called Old Town or Zona Romantica.
Or for somthing smaller and more intimate Quinta Maria Cortez is a unique and amazing hotel a bit south on that beach, there's a recent trip report on that hotel here on Fodors.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. I agree with Suze Nov thru May is excellant time to go after that too hot and humid. What type of hotel are you looking for? There are only a few top rated hotels there. Also I wouldn't recommend all inclusive for the simple reason there are so many restaurants at so many different locations you would be missing a lot if you did not go. My husband and I go to P.V. quite often Feb will be our 3rd time this year. We usually go to the Marriott or the Sheraton or Fiesta Americana. They are all top hotels The Marriott being the best. If it isn't too expensive I definitely recommend it. Also there is Dreams which is all inclusive but a top rated hotel. I haven't been since it became Dreams it used to be Camino Real
but the beach there is private and great. The only top rated hotel that is in walking distance to town is the Sheraton, it is a nice walk but walking casually you can take in all that the town has to offer. You can always take a taxi ride back. We used to do that but we take a cab now. P.V. isn't that big no matter where you stay the cab ride wouldn't be that far. and only $3.00 to $5.00. Good luck and let me know if you need any more info. As for the hotels try trip advisor.com and check them out. That web site gives reviews from people who stayed at the hotels.

Suze and Butsey- Thank you so much for your advice. I looked into the Marriott on Travelocity and they weren't too bad as far as rates. They had a package deal for $1800. which included four nights in a oceanview room and flight for both of us. That comes out to be around $169.00/night for room. Do you all think we could rent a private condo where Suze recommended for a better deal? I think flights were about $600 from Tampa. Thanks again for all your help.

You could probably rent a cheaper condo but I doubt it would be as nice as Casa Magna Marriott. The Marriott is a very very nice hotel, much nicer than the hotels along Los Muertos. I wish I knew pricing for good private condos, but unfortunately I don't.

We stayed at the Premier and LOVED it! On the beach, great sunset views, most rooms have jacuzzis on their terraces but the corner rooms(actually suites) have a terrace with a large tiled hot tub, living room, small kitchen. It is on Playa Camarones, not downtown but an easy interesting walk to everything. They don't allow children which was perfect for us. I don't know about packages that included air, but we booked through Different World travel and have always gotten a great room a great rate through them.

Well, I like to be in the middle of things, because I walk walk walk. I urge you to stay out of the hotel zone. It is so romantic to walk the malecon at night and people watch. The rhythms of the Night tour I heard is very nice and romantic. You are getting a good deal because the hotel is not close enough to the "centro" or the malecon area. The "happenning spots" as you put it are in "centro" not on the fringes. The Sheraton is within walking, but still not close enough in. I don't know what the rules are for giving addresses on this site, otherwise I would give you a great rate at a fabulous condo on the beach above Daquiri Dicks restaurant (Plaza Dorada) one of the best of the best spots to be next to Los Arcos. Suze on this post has the hotel spots down pat and like others said November - May is best. However, my family went last October and said everything was great. Oh-- restaurants -too many good places mostly in old town. And, Carlos O'Brian can't be beat for peach margarita's on the Malecon.

Hey drof!! I am leaving tomorrow for P.V. would have preferred to stay the the Marriott but got such a good deal at the Sheraton couldn't pass it up. Glad you have decided on the Marriott the service is the best the food is good and you can walk all over the Marina to restaurants, shops and some nice places to have a drink and watch the people strolling by. I will be getting back on Tuesday the 14th If I can help with any restaurants let me know. Adios
