honeymoom in Belize and Guatemala

Hi we are going to Belze and Guatemala June 10-21 and are looking for help, we are divers and hikers so are really looking forward to our trip.
We are thinking of this schedule (and yes I know we pack it in!)
June 10th- arrive and go to Ambergris Caye (Victoria house probably)go diving and snorkeling (would like advice on cool things to such as daytrips)

14th - rent car in Belize City (we like to drive ourselves) and travel to cayo area (chaa creek) Im wondering if there is an activity to do on the way, we love to take our time making lots of stops.

15th - ATM cave tour
16th - maybe cave tubing or other cool stuff (need suggestions)
17th - cross border (i know not in the rental car) and go to Flores, would love advice on where to stay (on honeymoon so decent place) and stuff to do that afternoon.
18th - early start for full day at Tikal
19th - back to belize and drive to placencia (any cool stuff on the way?)
20th - whale shark diving
21st - enjoy our last day as we drive back to Belize city

Hope you can see I have some questions in there. We are pretty set on the big things but tour suggestions and smaller must do's would be appreciated. I have all the guide books and everything but i see that this forum is very helpful to others.

Thanks!

Congratulations! Don't miss the zoo on your way west. On the drive to Placencia you might want to stop for a dip at the Blue Hole. Tikal to Placencia is a really long day - might want to break the trip up by spending a night somewhere.

My photos and travelogues are below if you're interested; there are Tikal photos in both the Belize and the Guat 2007 collections. Happy trails!

Best Wishes on your upcoming marriage.

With 4 days on AC, I would probably concentrate mainly on your diving and snorkeling and being lazy on the beach as well as exploring the town. Lots of wonderful restaurants and bars. You could do a trip over to Caye Caulker to check it out. You could spend a day doing the river trip to Lamanai. But I found I got really lazy on AC, it was our last stop of our trip.

Do stop at the Belize Zoo either on your way to the Cayo or on your way back.

As to a place to possibly stay in Flores, have you looked at La Lancha www.lalancha.com. It is one of the Coppola properties. We have not yet stayed here but it does seem to fit the honeymoon place desire.

Hi -
How did you plan on Guantamala for June? We're thinking about it as well, but was nervous about the weather. Would love to hear what you thought...Also, do you know if you need any sort of vaccinations/malaria for those countries? TRying last minute (sort of) to plan a mid/end June trip...Thanks!

Heading down in July for my 7th summer visit to Central America. In my experience the rain falls mainly at night (western Honduras, Belize, and lowland Guatemala) or starting in the afternoon (Guat highlands). The days are nice, things are green, and there are typically fewer tourists which can sometimes mean cheaper rates on tours and hotels. Great time to visit!

Here's a link to health recommendations for Guatemala (just change the country in the URL for others):

Happy trails!
