HELP with packing for Argentina

My husband and I are off to Argentina on Oct. 25th for 2 weeks. I have learned so much by reading this forum and would like to pick your brains one more time. Our itinerary (in this order) is Buenas Aires, NW Argentina (Colome in Molinas, Salta, Purmamarca) and Iguazu--both the Argentine and Brazilian side of the falls. I checked the weather website for average temperatures and it looks like BsAs is high low 70's/low low 50's, Salta is high low 80's/low mid 50's and Iguazu is high upper 80's/low 60. I'm assuming that dress in the NW and Iguazu is very casual. How about BsAs? We do not have any dinner reservations yet. Are there restaurants that would require my husband to have a sport coat? A tie? Do I need nice pants and a jacket/dress or can khakis and a sweater or jacket take me most places. I don't want to foreclose anyplace special because we don't have the right attire.
Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

We were in BA last year and my husband wore long sleeve shirts at the nicer restaurants, did not need a jacket or tie. I took one skirt and one pair of nicer pants which worked fine. The shopping is so good and so inexpensive that you can buy something if you really need to. Have a great trip.

As a dear friend of mine would say, the above poster is spot on. I can think of very few places in BA which would require a tie for a tourist. Besides, as Nabglow said, "The shopping is so good and so inexpensive that you can buy something if you really need to."
Have a great time in our country. Your itinerary seems wonderful.

Thanks to you both. I owe my itinerary to posters on this forum. I had never heard of the NW until I read about it here and now cannot wait to explore. I hope to write a report when I return.

cadwex, for the NW, imagine you are going to the SW of the USA, bring T-shirts, like an onion, a light jacket, sun lotion, sun glasses, a cup... several shirts or t-shirts, two pair of trousers a light jacket (do not forget!).

Hi Cadwex,
What a fantastic trip you have planned, make sure you go horseback riding when you get to Colome, (If you ride), it was one of the highlights of my trip two years ago!

I always bring a nice pair of black pants with a few fun tops for BA, the women do dress very nice in the city. Once you're in the country, casual wear will do.

Have a great time!

we were in the NW precisely the same time (first week in November) and Flinstones / Angie is right to suggest layers. We did encounter some wind in places, and a cozy jacket really helped (we wore the shawls we bought in Purmarca . In Colome, we had warm sunny weather. BTW, at least when were there last year, Colome's pool was not heated, so it is freezing when you first get in, but stick with it, because it will feel very refreshing and even comfortable after a lap or two! You can also order lunch while sitting at the pool.

I echo Owlwoman on the horseback ride. And look up at the stars at night...

we look forward to your report!

Thanks to all of you. I love Flintstones analogy of an onion--I will be smiling as I peel off the layers! Also, owlwoman and skatedancer--you were two of my inspirations for Colome and the NW--so thank you for your advice. I would not have found Colome without you and I promise to remember to look at the sky. That is one of our favorite activites while on vacation. As for the horseback riding--my husband is an expert and cannot wait for his rides. I've only been on a horse a couple of times so I'm not sure whether I will chance it.
More when I return!

Cadwex: I was in Colome in different times of the year, I also saw it with the snow falling in the mountains under the sunshine- I am sure it will sound strange but true... The stars can almost be touched!
