Help choosing In Costa Rica, please...

I'm going with my grown children and wife (we're in our 50's, kids in their late 20's) to Costa Rica in early Nov.

I've narrowed my choices of resorts down to the Paradisus Playa Concha (aka Melia) and the Four Seasons.

Can anyone give me any insite on deciding which to choose from, between these two. I like the idea of an "all inclusive" (are they both AI?). We also want to be able to do a reasonable number of day trips for Canopy Tours, Wildlife, etc.

Thanks to all in advance.

As I understand it, the FS is not all-inclusive. You buy a meal plan extra (and have some choice as to what type of plan you wish to buy).

Conchal is all-inclusive. It is very nice by our standards and we have stayed there a few times.

The Four Seasons would be considered higher end than Paradisus, in my opinion. It isn't someplace we would choose to stay, but others have given it rave reviews. We have been on the property--it's a nice place.

We like the Papagayo Peninsula, but prefer the Tamarindo-Flamingo coastline. Playa Conchal is in the middle of that stretch of beaches.

Both are in areas that would allow interesting day trips. We think the evening entertainment at Paradisus is top of the line. I believe you will be pleased with either choice.

We're staying at the Playa Conchal next week. I will write an elaborate review when we get back. Is there anything specific you would like to know?

I returned from a week long stay at Playa Concha yesterday. The hotel is beautiful and very well maintained. The staff overall is helpful and always say hello. As for the retail shops on premise in particular a store named Tambu be very careful about standing near misplaced merchandise as you will be charged for breakage. I was looking at some jewelry on a sprial display. One are had 3 Seashell bracelets on it. A bracelet fell off - I put it back on the arm. A few moments later a young girl was looking at the same display and the breacelet fell off again. A gentlemen told her that she broke it and would have to pay for it. The piece was priced at a gouging $35.00 USA. I told the clerk that I too had dropped it. There was no manager present. I paid for the unwanted item and made 3 attempts to find the manager before I left for the states. Upon returning I was told that I could not dispute the charge and am stuck with an item that I never touched to begin with. I did not like the lack of management and Tambu or the way I was treated by staff when I tried to explain that they had too much breakable merchandise stacked on a short bar. - Enough of that- the outrigger canoe tour was awesome as was the congo canopy tour. We met some great people (staff)at both places -they were upbeat helpful and funny as well as informative.
