I would also recommend El Cafetal near Atenas. Wonderful little coffee farm out in the country--very nice property, nice little hotel--B&B. Nearby is a little soda ideal for sampling comida tipica!

Thanks for everybody for the recomendations - one more question though - nice hotels in montezuma? anybody knows?

Here is a good link wih many Montezuma offerings. I was going to suggest Ylang Ylang/ El Sano Banano Beach Resort but I see their prices have gone way up. Still an option though if $$$ is not an issue.

Hotel Lucy is a nice hotel with excellent service and doesn't cost much.

Ylang Ylang is off the map to the north about 1km. The Banano in town isn't the one I was recommending but is obviously an option.

I'm assuming you mean Playa Hermosa in the Nicoya / Guanacaste area which I have no experience with.
If the Playa Hermosa, just south of Jaco, is what you mean Fuego del Sol may be a good choice.
