faithie in San Blas-Panama-Help!

Hello All,

Does anyone have any tips for choosing between Cabanas Kuanidup, Cabanas Yandup, Cabanas Coco Blanco, Cabanas Isla Wailidup.....?

A combination of 2 if feasible...?

We will have 5-6 nights.

Thanx!
Faith

P.S. I do realize these are very simple, rustic, back to basic cabanas.
Thats OK.

I'm more interested in these than Dad Ibe, Dolphin Lodge and Sapibinega.

Thank You, Faith.

I certainly will!

Tried to go to Isla Providencia Colombia but had a hard time with the lodging. We'll try again for there anoother time.

So we are now thinking Cabanas Coco Blanco for a few nights, Panama City 2 nights, and not sure what else.

Andrew....or someone else in the "know".....

We are still undecided on our choice of island lodging.

Any ideas? Is Cabanas Coco Blanco as pretty and idyllic as Kuanidup?

Is the Kwadule Ecolodge closed?

Favourites?

Any tips appreciated. Faith

Ha!

I keep posting to myself. Soon I'll answer my own questions, lol.

Andrew, anyone, my husband wondered about medical care etc. The islands are remote & we are taking a 9 & 11 year old. Not babies, but still.

Others have taken children there(a report is here). But I'd love more input. We would probably be there 4 nights.

Hi Faith,
Lucky I got on here today - if you are still looking I just heard that Yandup has 4 new bungalows that are quite nice... Someone over on Thorntree had just been there...

Dad Ibe is still probably the nicest of the lodges.

As for medical care - not really any over there (maybe very basic first aid if you are lucky) but you are a short flight back to Panama City where it's top notch... Take lots of bug spray, oil based repellent for the chitras and sun screen - and keep putting it on all day long...

When snorkeling remember to put screen on the back of your knees (especially the kids) - have seen too many people get the back of their legs burnt while in the water where they didn't notice...

You can always email me direct if you need anything - I only check the forums once every week or two now.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hey, Faithie, I'm glad Andrew came on and got some advice. We stayed at Dolphin Lodge when we were there. Enjoyed our too short stay of two nights.

I hear you about Providencia and getting a room. It's been a royal pain. We finally got rooms at Cabanas Agua Dulce, but it's been a hassle.

No Way!!!

Jean? How in the heck did you get the rooms at Agua Dulce? Thats where we tried amongst other spots....

We tried emailing them direct, had someone call them direct, called Bogota-Decameron, emailed a Decameron travel agent in Bogota....& still no room!

I'm jealous!

Andrew, Thank You for the tips. I'll look at Dad Ibe again, for some reason I wasn't as drawn to the look of these
higher end ones.

Yandup looks great, Kuanidup looks like perfection but is the most basic(rustic) of all. But as far as castaway, picture perfect isles go, it wins from the pics I've seen.

We like the look of Cabanas Coco Blanco as well. Choices, choices....

Thank You!

I guess I'm assuming I have rooms in Providencia. We don't travel for another month. But, they're paid for....

We're also spending some time on San Andres. Had a hard time finding a room there as well, actually, finding a room at a reasonable price was the problem. I was on the 'Big Juice' San Andres site asking questions and got an e-mail from a German woman named Susan who is affiliated with Hotel Portobelo there. She got us a room there, has been very helpful.

Anyway, she has a friend, who is somehow affiliated with Decameron resorts. After lots of hassles and waiting, we finally have reservations and plane tickets. I hope.

I don't know who is staying at those properties, people from mainland Colombia perhaps??? It certainly is difficult to get rooms as an American. For the longest time, the response I got from the Decameron people was that the rates for 2008 weren't out yet. And that was in October 2007. Made no sense.

Enjoy your time in San Blas. When are you traveling?

Hi Jean,

We leave in 12 days!

Having last minute "heebie-jeebies" about malaria meds, hep vaccines etc....

Agree about Providencia, very difficult with the room thing. And it is mainland Colombians who travel there. I can't wait o hear your views. It looks incredible to us and we really want to be going there but gave uo and had to focus on Panama.

Next time!

Well....

Faithie is NOT in San Blas any longer!

Last minute change to Isla Boca Brava Panama, inside the National marine park. We will stay at Boutique Hotel Cala Mia(a "huge" splurge for us!)

We leave in 10 days, the kids are aware so I don't have to sneak around washing shorts and packing sunscreen, lol!!!

Thank You Andrew!

San Blas next time.
