El Pueblo Hotel at Machu Picchu
Anyone stayed here and have an opinion on whether it's worth the splurge. The website is the Inkaterra -- not sure if it's run by the same company but a different level of facility?

We LOVED the Inkaterra. What a treat after hiking the two day Inca Trail (really only one day of hiking). We lucked out and got the Inkaterra Suite and it was amazing...two level deck, three room bathroom, plunge pool, butler, etc. The Inkaterra was a wonderful surprise...food very good, grounds gorgeous, lots of activities. I highly recommend it.

Hi Leslie, we also stayed at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Lodge and loved it; though not as lucky - no suite; but our room was delightful; a view over the river, a lovely sitting area and a fireplace; which we used in May!
After a full day of hiking around MP it was great to have the lovely grounds of Inkaterra's hotel to explore, and there are guides for just about any kind of side trip you'd like to take - orchids, tea, night walks, etc.
We enjoyed meeting other travelers in the bar area, and had most of our dinners and lunches in the main DR as the cafe by the train tracks gets very crowded and noisy by tour groups. We walked around AC one afternoon; not impressed at all, but looks like someone is trying to "pretty it up".
Some reports have maintained the staff is rude and "non-existent"; we found the opposite to be true, and really enjoyed getting to know several of the staff members.
Go for it; its a real treat.

I have just found that the only room available for my date at the Inkaterra is a suite which is over $800 so I think I'll have to pass! The Sumaq looks like another lovely property - I believe they have a $400 room available which somehow sounds almost cheap

Inkaterra is worth every penny, I've been all over the world, and Inkaterra is one of my favorites. Shame they don't have lower catogories left, it's stunning. Did you call them directly to find out, or just look at website? Sometimes calling direct, they may find something for you.....good luck!

For those of you who stayed at Inkaterra - are the included activities (the orchid walk, spectacled bears, etc.) available throughout the day or only at specific times each day? Some of these activities look like they'll contrast nicely with the more strenuous walks/hikes we're planning on doing at Machu Picchu.

Leslie_S....initially when I tried to book the MP Inkaterra the website indicated what I was looking for wasnt available for my dates so I emailed them directly and got in touch with a booking agent who was so pleasant and helpful to work with. She found a room which was perfect for our family of 4 (although very expensive), but in the end totally worth it. Very efficient email responses and we LOVED our stay there...I would stay there again in a heartbeat ....it's a real experience.
eenusa - the bear visit and orchid walks etc are at scheduled times and you sign up for them in advance. the day we were there it was lightly raining so we were the only ones in our group so it was like a private tour. The grounds are really beautiful, they grow their own tea and coffee.
Enjoy

Hi
Here's a link to our pictures - many humingbirds / orchids / birds at Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel pictures, but also some of the grounds and the room we had.

We loved it! It is sort of a shame that such a great hotel is next to Machu Picchu - It would be a wonderful destination all of its own - but if you go there - of course you have to leave the hotel and spend time a t Machu Picchu.
I would have loved to have another day there just to be at the hotel.

Eveningcrane - thank you for sharing your photos. I understand what you are saying about having time to enjoy the hotel. We've added an extra day to our Machu Picchu visit specifically for that purpose. After all the sightseeing in Cusco, SV, and MP, we'll be ready for some downtime before we head to Lake Titicaca.
