Day and night around La Paz

Wow, this is a great site. I have found tons of information for our first trip to CR, in April 2006 for my husband, myself and 8yr old daughter.

After arriving late Friday evening and staying in San Jose, we have decided to fly to Quepos Saturday for our 4 night stay in MA. Here we would like to horseback ride, do the rainmaker conservation park, and visit MA park or do ziplines. We will fly back to San Jose Wednesday, rent a car and drive to Peace Lodge for the afternoon, and spend the night there. Since we have all Thursday to tour, what would be the best options? I don't want to repeat what we have done in MA.
We will probably return the rental car by dusk on Thursday...dinner suggestions??We are staying at the Hampton Inn.

Yes we love the site too! Some of us like me maybe too much!

Congratulations on choosing CR, I don't think you will be disappointed.

A few questions for you!
On your return from Quepos, what time do you arrive back to SJO?
Also for your International flight home, what time does it depart?

The reasons I ask -
Only having one day at La Paz, you are certainly going to want to tour the grounds and falls. So I wouldn't probably plan too much, especially not tours that will take you all day. But you could easily head over to Poas Volcano early that morning, hike around. If you are a coffee lover you may want to stop in at Doka for one of their tours and sampling the coffee, it is on the way to PL. And also in case you do not know, Peace Lodge is only just over an hour from SJO, so is your departing flight really early or could you stay another night?!

A comment - in case you haven't heard - the Finca Valmy Horseback Tour at MA is one of the most talked about horseback adventures, a must.

We would like to catch the 11:00 flight back to SJO, and then rent our car there and drive to PL. I had hoped we would be able to enjoy the grounds that afternoon. Thursday is pretty much wide open. We have a reservation at the Hampton Inn that night since our flight leaves at 7:30 AM Friday. The coffee plantation was something that I had wanted to do, but my 8yr old isn't too crazy about that. My husband is up for driving anywhere, it is just difficult to gauge time/distance.

So never mind this BenCar84 guy! He is obviously on a rampage, clicked on his name, seems he hates everything. Hopefully Fodor's will kick him out soon!

OK back to your lovely trip!

Well with a 7:30 AM international departure, yep, probably Hampton is a good choice. Oh well!

You can arrange a private tour at Doka. This way you would not be with a large group, you could go at your own pace and probably a bit quicker. Of course April is not coffee harvest time, but it is interesting to learn about. There is another coffee tour - Cafe Britt, with a bit of theatrics thrown in. I was more interested in the history, growing, harvest, roasting, etc. And the wonderful scents and tastes! Anyway again, Peace Lodge can arrange this if you want, we did the private tour.

So by the time you get to SJ, pick up your car, stop for lunch, you will probably make it to PL around 2. Yes, you can do a tour of the grounds and falls that afternoon.

Oh do stop at the Cafe Tres Generaciones (Doka coffee shop) on the way to Peace, at least you can taste the coffee.

We typically do not set much of a schedule. Glad we didn't here. I truly had a hard time getting out of the incredible room.

There are several tours on their website that can give you some ideas. But I still say get up early and over to Poas Volcano not 30 mins away. You want to be there early before the clouds roll in. Spend a few hours hiking around and then back to Peace for a last walk around and then head back to SJ.

Hopefully someone else will have another suggestion.

Have a great trip.

We were at Peace Lodge with our 2 kids age 4 and 8 and they would have been happy to stay in the frog room and/or feed the hummingbirds all day! Make sure you find out what time they are feeding the hummingbirds. Also, some people in the restaurant had arranged to go down to the frog room with a guide after dark... I guess lots come out then. We were too tired since it was our arrival day, but you might try that too. The people at the front desk are very helpful. They also have a warm pool, cold pool and jacuzzi.

Thanks for all the info. It has given me a lot to think about. I think we will just stay in the immediate area.
Any advice on Sarchi (the trinket town)?

Oh, this Post isn't about Bolivia?
