We stayed at Lindo Mar last summer for a week (on a pre-wedding de-stress trip!) and loved it. It is just south of downtown in Conchas Chinas (I think that's spelled right), so you are close to town for shopping, dining, walking, etc., but in a bit quieter area. Cheap cab ride.
The hotel itself is all condo type units, all large and with ocean view balconies. They have a very sweet little beach with good snorkeling. We went via my husband's parents' timeshare, but I believe you can just rent like a hotel. We got no timeshare pressure while we were there which was nice. They have happy hour twice a day at the little bar/restaurant. I would try to make sure not to get a ground level room though as they open out onto the pool. Their website is: http://www.lindomarresort.com/
I also can't help but say that we had one of our best meals ever at Theirry Blouet's Cocina del Autor in PV. A splurge, but so worth it. We'd go back to both places in a heartbeat.

Lindo Mar's a good suggestion (yup Conchas Chinas is the correct spelling).
Also down that way, you can look at the penthouse unit(s) at Vallarta Shores.
Or condos along Los Muertos in buildings like La Palapa or El Dorado.
Also lots of places rent independently on VRBO.

Hola,
I'm looking to go to PV this December. I have always staid in Condos, but I would like to stay in a Villa this with a couple of friends this time. I came across this site: http://www.applegaterealtors.com/
Have any of you used these guys? They offer a wide variety of villas available; can anyone recommend a villa in particular?
