I find the comments regarding the similarity between Starbucks coffee and Costa Rican coffee interesting because I always felt that they are totally different. I am a coffee drinker but do NOT like Starbucks coffee (except for their mild varieties). I love Britt and 3 Generations but I tend to buy their regular or mild roasts. (Although Britt dark roast is really not that dark). On the last trip, we also got some of the shade grown organic, Tarrazu Montecielo and Tres Rios and liked them very much as well.
We usually bring 20 or so bags home from CR and declare it at the customs control. We never had any problems with that.

I think you are safe TripleSecDelay as long as the coffee plantation is not yours. I have no monetary connection (other than the money spent there LOL) to any of the coffee suppliers I have mentioned so I assume that is safely respectful of the rules of this board if that is what you are making fun of.

LMAO!!!! Every now and then I think about the monkey(s) and laugh out loud.
With the coffee beans "we" had for some reason packaged one bundle with some cooking herbs and soaps that were wrapped in clear plastic. The TSA folks raised a "suspicious" flag and called for the "big-guns" to come...
After explaining that we were simply trying to make everything fit the TSA folks said well the Customs folks are not going to let you take these beans in this way, blah, blah, blah. In short we gave the coffee, herbs and soaps to the TSA folks so that we would not be on the "radar". We did not know that TSA and Customs in most cases do not talk to one another. We figured they wanted the coffee and we wanted no problems or further delays.
Who woulda thought?

lza - Specifically, I refer to the Verona and the Breakfast Blend from Starbuck's. Now, watch somebody claim that these two are from a non-CR source!
Something we have done in the past with wine tasting may also be fun with coffee : Blind taste tests.
For the uninitiated, here's how it goes :
With wine or with coffee, the invited guests bring a sample with no labels. For wine, we designate a price range per bottle in the invitation. We place the samples on a table and the only marking that each bears is... a number written on masking tape, for example.
Everyone tastes, rates, and votes. After all the voting is completed, the names of the wines or coffees are revealed.
More than once, a lowest-price wine has won the taste test!
Cheers!
