LEAVING TUESDAY....NEED SOME SUGGESTIONS ON SIGHTS AND SHOPPING

IN SAN JOSE FOR A FEW HOURS THEN GOING TO MONTEVERDE, ARENAL AND GUANCASTLE.
HOW IS THE CENTRAL MARKET IN SAN JOSE? NEED TO BUY SOME CIGARS AND COFFEE FOR FRIENDS- SHOULD I GET THEM IN SAN JOSE AND ANYBODY KNOW A GOOD SHOP TO GO TOO?
ARE THERE ANY INTERESTING PLACES TO STOP AND SEE FROM SAN JOSE TO MONTEVERDE? ALSO FROM ARENAL TO GUANCASTLE?
ANYTHING INTERESTING TO BUY WHILE AT THESE PLACES.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP

Some of us do our shopping for these kinds of things at the airport, before departure, so as not to lug the stuff around. (I confess, I don't buy cigars though.) Try any supermarket for coffee, or buy it from Brit online when you get home. San Jose is a big, sprawling city with lots of traffic to absorb your time. It wouldn't hurt to by a travel guide of some sort before you go.

The Doka Coffee Estate is a great place to buy coffee; we've also bought it at the airport.

About an hour outside San Jose is the La Paz Waterfall Gardens - definitely worth a stop to see the 5 beautiful waterfalls and the hummingbird garden.

I second the airport. There's lots of coffe and cigars avilable. Both are probably fresher as well.

In Monteverde make sure you stop by CASEM - a women's co-op which has beautiful gifts made by local women. It is right across the street from Stella's Bakery on the road to MV Reserve.
