Cavas Wine Lodge in Mendoza
We will be visiting Mendoza for 7 days in April, and we are considering staying at the Cavas Wine Lodge. Have any of you stayed at this place before? Is it nice? Do you have a better alternative that you would like to suggest?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

We thought Cavas Wine Lodge was wonderful when we stayed there two years ago. We stayed there two nights. The food was very good, and the wines tours that were arranged were really excellent. It is not right in the city of Mendoza and fairly isolated. We also stayed one night at the Park Hyatt in Mendoza. We loved Mendoza, but four days was enough. If you are going to be doing extensive winery visiting, you might want to stay longer, however.

We have stayed twice in Cavas. We were very pleased.
The panoramic view of the Andes is outstanding from Cavas, the service is great, the food is very good, not only all this, but they are fantastic to suggest things to do, like visits to wineries or dinner out. They went out of their way to make reservations in the right place. They work with a very reliable guide for
outdoors scapades, Cavas providing the picinic food.
They organized music events in Cavas and also wine tastings. A wonderful place. It was the highlight of both our trips to Mendoza.

Cava's rates are around 500 dollars a night which seems a little expensive to me. Is Mendoza an expensive area or is Cavas just a super high priced place?
I would welcome less expensive but still up scale alternatives. Gracias!

You might consider staying part of the time at Cavas, which is isolated and away from the city, and the rest of the time in Mendoza. We stayed at the Park Hyatt, which was fairly expensive. There is a brand new Sheraton near the Hyatt, which would probably have somewhat better rates.
We loved this restaurant (not far from the Hyatt). http://www.marchigiana.com.ar/

we were in Mendoza for wine touring, and we especially liked the evening action in the city (lots of restaurants, cafes, families strolling in the park, music in the streets, etc), and we loved the ARGENTINO HOTEL(beautiful minimalist rooms, comfy bed, aircon, large bathrooms, approx $90/night, great service, nice restaurant, free wifi, free breakfast) right on the main plaza -you can do daytime wine tours and enjoy the city at night. Beware, Mendoza is excruciatingly hot -- it was nearly 100degreesF (39C) every day when we were there mid-December (think Phoenix, Arizona in the summertime!) -- so the cool pool at the hotel was our daytime refuge (do your wine tasting in the morning before it gets too hot)
