car in Cabo del San Jose?

I thought we`d rent one, but a friend of a friend says no, you don`t need one. I want to go to Todos Santos and also, over to see some surf pounding. Want to go to Cabo San Lucas too. Don`t want to just stay at the condo. We would be walking back from restaurants later at night too, if we don`t have a car. Do we need one?

We were in Cabo San Jose three years ago. We had a car and used it quite a bit...Todos Santos, different beaches, Cabo San Jose restaurants etc.

If you're staying in Cabo San Lucas you can get by without a car since it's a small town, until you want to visit Todos Santos or wherever.

If you're staying in the corridor or in San Jose del Cabo then a car makes more sense. We always get one when staying there since it's cheaper than paying for a taxi 2-3 times a day.

To see "some surf pounding" go to either Solmar or Finisterra and walk to the beach in front of them to the Pacific beach, which get much heavier surf than the San Jose side. I'd just park underneath the Finisterra and walk thru the lobby like I owned the place, and it's unlikely they will question you.

thanks for the replies, Patricia and Bill. Do you know what it costs to go from the airport to San Jose by shuttle or bus? We will be on the outskirts of town. Sounds like it will be a hassle to go to Todos Santos by bus or to those beaches mentioned either. Thanks again! Pat

Haven't used shuttle or taxi for years at Cabo (rental cars last several trips) but from several years ago I recall $45 for a private taxi to Cabo and $12 per person for the shuttle. I would guess $60 and $15 or thereabouts by now, but just a guess. San Jose is about 5 miles from the airport, Cabo 25 miles, so it would cost less to San Jose.

Basically it worked out that for four or more people it was cheaper to get a taxi from the airport.

Dunno about busses to Todos Santos but you can rent a car for just a day or two. It's about a 1.5 - 2 hour drive from San Jose (if you don't miss the turn in Cabo, which is easy to miss).
