Cancun vs Cozumel

Hubby and I are trying to decide where to go on vacation next year - we are debating between Cancun and Cozumel. We have been to Aruba and Grand Cayman - preferred Aruba due to nightlife). In the States we love Vegas and New Orleans.

We love to lounge on the beach all day sipping frozen cocktails, enjoy a nice dinner and then have some form of nightlife (bars, clubs, casinos, etc). Also enjoy snorelking and exploring.

We are also looking at going next June / July or August due to needing parents to watch our baby - any thoughts - I know later tends to get into Hurricane season.

Opinions anyone???

I prefer Cozumel but I don't like nightclubs much.
The snorkeling in Cozumel is much better but their is not as much nightlife in Cancun.
If you like Florida, you will probably like Cancun. It seems more American than Mexican.
Have you considered Playa Del Carmen? It has nightlife but seems more like a real Mexican city. It is also easy to day trip to Cozumel from PDC since the ferry terminal is there.

Have been to Cancun numerous times and Cozumel once. For night life and for just lounging on the beach, Cancun would have the advantage. There are numerous resorts (all-inclusive and non-A.I.) in the hotel zone from which to choose. If you plan on doing any sightseeing (mayan ruins, cenotes, Isla Mujeres, Riviera Maya), once again Cancun would be your spot. For the best snorkeling, head for Cozumel (Chankanaab Park, Dzul Ha & Playa Palancar, to name a few spots). For a first time visit, I would recommend Cancun. You could always take a snorkeling tour to an area south of Cancun, or take the water ferry to Isla Mujeres (Garafon Park).

Cancun sounds perfect for you. I'd choose a little later in July or August, because I think in late June there are a lot of kids there, celebrating high school graduation.

This was debated in the forum previously. I would recommend searching the forum. People either seem to love or hate Cancun. I hate it but I like to see other cultures and not vacation with only other Americans.

One thread that gives a flavor of both

For your explaination, I would say Cancun is more for you! It is party town! You can party alittel or a lot! You can find bars, clubs...I don't think casinos! You are on the reef, so snorkeling is premium! Once I took a boat tour to the Club Med. property and it was some of the best snorkeling ever! It was a Booze Cruise. My goal was to swim and snorkel, but it was fun on the way back!!
