Cancun in December? Any downsides?

I have found some great airfare to Cancun for the early part of December with free hotel using Marriott points and am considering a long week-end. It looks like hurricane season is over by then and I am guessing the weather is nice that time of year. Any downside to traveling to Cancun at that time?

We've traveled to several destinations in Novemer with no problem. We were considering Cancun for the first weekend in December and then we found out the hotel we wanted was going to be closed for renovations until Christmas time.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the weather, but the time before Christmas/New Year is considered slow and that's when many hotels close their pools for maintanence and do general updates on rooms, resturants and amenities, so just make sure that the hotel you chose all their amenties are open and usable and there is no construction going on.

I'm personally not fond of Cancun, but have gone to Isla Mujeres (via Cancun) in December. The weather was great, plenty warm enough for snorkeling/swimming during the day, very pleasant in the evenings, although I did take along a sweater.

I've been outside of Cancun in the Riviera Maya during Christmas week. The weather was great. Needed a light sweater a couple nights. During the day it was sunny and hot.
The first couple weeks of Cecember will be less crowded and wonderful.
Enjoy!

Unless you don't enjoy time to yourself, next to no tourists, amazing weather, beach and food, then there is no downside whatsoever!

Seriously, I'm in Cancun every month for a week and the first week of December is my most favorite time to go.

Cheers

We've been to both Cancun and Tulum in the weeks before the Christmas rush. It is very nice--not a lot of people in general and even fewer kids. The evenings can drop into the 60's--whether that is cool for you or not is relative to where you're coming from.

I love Cancun in Dec. We go every Dec. and have had awesome weather. However this past Dec. it rained every day we were there. But it didn't matter we were in Cancun at the Ritz. What else could a girl ask for?

What Marriott are you staying at? JW and Casa are Beautiful.

We are planning on staying at the JW, though for more points we could stay at the Ritz as they have an arrangement with Marriott. I love the Ritz (though I have never been to the one in Cancun), but the reviews for the JW were so good on tripadvisor I thought I would save my points. Do you think it would be a huge mistake to forgo an experience at the Ritz over the JW?
