HI -
My husband and I are planning our first trip to Costa Rica - we can go anytime from August to November. I know this is the rainy season - which month would probably be best to go?
Thanks!

If you get lucky the Veranillo de San Juan in August can be the best time of all in Costa Rica. Rainy season lack of crowds and dry season weather. I thought it was just a folk tale that there is a "little summer" in the middle of the rainy season until I started looking at the meterological data. Over the past hundred years or so there is a distinct decrease in rainfall over many locations for the last part of July and the last part of Aug. We got about three spectacular weeks out of it the last time we spent May through Aug there.
November is also great with many locations (other than the Caribbean and Osa) down to their normal dry season rainfall averages by then. I've only traveled in the northwest then so I can't vouch for the rest of the country, but you can see the normal rainfall amounts by location and time of year on this map

Dear wyc1231,
Iza is exactly right! However, there are not guarantees, and the daily weather is not predictable. It usually rains only a couple of hours in the afternoon, so it should allow you to do all your activities done if you start your days early.
Feel free to write me directly for any more information or with any more questions.
Pura vida,
Neta Talmor
