Can anyone recommend a good birding guide for Belize?

Hi, all - I'm looking for a birding guide for Belize. Can anyone recommend a good one that's pretty portable? Something with good drawings to help with identification?

I have Birds of Belize by H. Lee Jones but I don't know if you'd consider this portable. Most lodges have a copy of this.

Thanks, hopeful; we have those for Costa Rica and like them. I guess I'm looking for more of a book, something I can take notes in. Patty, do you like the one you have? Is it paperback? I just don't want something hardcover that's going to be too heavy.

I also have 'Birds of Belize' by H. Lee Jones. It's a great book, but, even though it's paperback, it's about 1 1/2 inches thick, and it's heavy.

A friend of mine also has the book. She took it to a copy place in the States and they took the binding off the book and made it into two books, with a spiral binding. The first third of the book is the plates, the last 2/3's give more details about the habitat and such. That would make carrying the picture part a lot easier to carry around.

Yes I like it and as Jean mentioned, it's a paperback but not light.

Looks like Birds of Belize it is! Are there mostly the same species of birds as in CR, or were there a lot of new varieties for those of you who have been to both?

Though I haven't been to both, I have the bird cards for both - really different since Costa Rica has highland areas; overlap for the lowland areas.

Mostly the same birds, but typically birds vary more by habitat than country. The Lamanai area is more like Cano Negro than like the Cayo, for example. Of course, there are very real differences.
