Books about Belize

Does anyone have any fiction or nonfiction books to suggest about Belize? Wanna get in the mood or my upcoming trip.

Thank you!

I have two recommendations for you. One is Belize, a novel by Carlos Ledson Miller -- great beach reading and very accurate in its portrayal of contemporary Belizeans. The other is a memoir, Our Man in Belize by Richard Timothy Conroy. It's about British Honduras in the early 60s. Fascinating.

For guidebooks, I especially like new edition of The Adventure Guide to Belize, just out, very comprehensive (500+ pages) and updated by Vivien Lougheed. Also, The Rough Guide to Belize by my pal Peter Eltringham, excellent though it's now getting a little long in the tooth.

I won't push my own books on Belize, of which I've written co-written a half dozen, including Fodor's Belize & Guatemala Guide (the Belize section).

Fabulous! I'll check out those first two you mentioned. I've read your guides and they ARE great - informative & helpful. But now I'm looking for less of a guide and more of a narritive or story set in Belize... to get me in the mood.
Thank you!

May -- try the "Traveller's Literary Companion" Series -- short story fiction by local writers.

For guidebooks to Belize, I like Belize Adventures in Nature, by Richard Mahler.

For guidebooks to Costa Rica, I like Costa Rica, one of the Moon Handbooks, by Christopher Baker.

Rich Mahler's book was excellent. Unfortuately it is now four + years old and very out of date.
