Budget hotel in Manuel Antonio
Hi-
My girlfriend and I are leaving for Costa Rica a week from today and are trying to find a reasonably priced place to stay for the 3 nights we hope to spend in Manuel Antonio.
We will not have a car (will be traveling by bus/shuttle from Monteverde and Arenal), so we want to be within reasonable walking distance of the beach and national park. Are there any recommended places that we could find a room for 2 for $80 or so? We could probably stretch to $100 if it meant a much better place, but can't really go higher than that.
Thanks!

I'm in the same boat . . . looking for an inexpensive place (ok, cheap). I've checked LaPosada and it's $125 + taxes . . . I'm looking for something around $50/dbl w/ac and hot water.
All suggestions appreciated!

I stayed at Hotel Verde Mar 2 years ago and it was very close to the park. The price then was $80/night. The accommodations were good, but we actually didn't spend too much time there for me to say anything more in detail. We got there early evening driving directly from SJO, then cleaned up to go to dinner. In the morning we were up and out early to tour the park and spend some time on the beach in the park and then we left later that afternoon. So I was barely there, but it seemed fine and the price was right. The website is verdemar.com.
In my current trip research I've heard quotes lower than what is posted on websites so it doesn't hurt to ask, especially if you are there for multiple nights.

Check out Hotel Mandarina (and see reviews on Trip Advisor). Definitely in your price range. Seems like a a solid, good place for the price. Not super close to the beach, but it's easy enough to jump on the public bus -- you CAN walk to the park from there, but walking back would be much more difficult (uphill).
I'll be staying at Mandarina next month, but long after you get back.

Have you checked any of the guide books, morefar (fodors, lonely planet, etc...)? They usually list rates and offer budget options.
Here's one suggestion I know I've read some positive reviews on:
Didi's Charming B&B
http://www.didiscr.com/welcome/OurRates.htm
Looks like it's in your price range. I haven't stayed there myself, but you can research it and see if it looks viable.
Have a wonderful trip. MA is a lot of fun!
