boat from Montezuma to Jaco?

I've heard this is a possibility, but has anyone done it? I found an expedition co. online that I'm asking, but I don't know where else to look. If you know who operates a service like this, please share! (and what are the boats like?) Thanks!

Hello, I haven´t done it, but I saw it. It´s a litte motor boat for a few passengers. The trip should take +/- 1 hour. I think they have no website, only email [email protected]

I, too, have seen it, but I haven't tried it, and likely won't. Glorifed rowboats, though they do see popular enough, with gangs of people crammed in.

The question of safety crosses ones mind unbidden.

I took the boat taxi from Montezuma to Jaco in 2002. In terms of saving time, it was great. Yes the boats are small aluminum type boats with outboard motors, but I didn't feel it was unsafe. (I verified that life vests were on board before we left.) Our boat captain was a bit of a jokester - half way to Jaco he cut the engine and said "Oh no - out of gas. Time to swim." After our initial panic, we had a good laugh. What I didn't like about it was that they actually drop you off at Herradura Bay, just north of Jaco. Although the Marriott has a harbor there, the boat taxi makes a wet landing on the beach, which means you have to get out in shallow water and carry your luggage to the beach. We also had not arranged any transportation to Quepos in advance, assuming that we could easily catch a bus from Jaco. As luck would have it, about 30 minutes after our arrival, a private shuttle van pulled up and asked us if we needed help. We ended up hiring the van to drive us to Quepos for $10 each. It was quite an adventure!

We arranged the boat taxi through the tour office (a kiosk actually) in "downtown" Montezuma. I can't remember the name, but you really can't miss it as it's right on the corner in the middle of town. I think El Sano Banano can also arrange a boat taxi. (www.elbanano.com).

Yes, as you see this is possible.

Just so you are aware, when we were in Montezuma Feb 2004, there were people that had planned to take the boat taxi to Jaco, but due to high winds, they were not running on that day.

So it seemed to us that they run based on the weather. Therefore some people ended up taking the bus or staying an extra day or so.

And cocozuma.com is a tour office recommended by Sano Banano, just a couple doors down. They can arrange a water taxi for you.

Thanks, all! Now we just have to decide whether we'd be comfortable in those little boats....
