Best January destinations?

Does anyone have suggestions on the best places to go in January? (ex: not freezing, hailing, raining excessively, etc). I've only got a break during that month this year and would love to go somewhere for 7-10 days. Outside the U.S. is preferable
-cheers

Me,again, winesavy. Check out Panama. January is their dry season. It is a beautiful country and tourist friendly without being overrun (yet).

Puerto Vallarta in January is great. Nice and warm, but not humid. Plenty to do and lots to see. I am prejudiced as I love Old Town, but there are many nice resorts both south and north.

Puerto Vallarta is wonderful. For something less developed I also enjoyed La Paz on the Baja.

Suz-
La Paz sounds cool. not the typical destination. What did you do when you went? any suggestions? I don't like tour guides but realize sometimes a little help is necessary (such as in Egypt). I like scenic places, beaches, outdoor activities, real local food, and small places
