Best Diving & Fishing in Belize?

My husband LOVES to fish and I like it. I LOVE to dive and he likes it. We both need a serious retreat. He has recently recovered (1 year) after major back surgery (c5/6-6/7 fusion) and we would love to find a romantic retreat where we can find adventure on a good day and chill out peacefully when we need it. We are in our mid/late 40's ...both in good physical condition...and very good divers/swimmers/anglers. Budget is mid range, but we're willing to splurge for the right spot. Suggestions?

Thanks so much - Looks great. Is it far to get to Ambergris Caye?

Robert's Grove is on the Placencia peninsula. Ambergis is one of the northern cayes. Last year we took a two day trip from Ambergris to Placencia, 90 minute water taxi ride from Ambergris to Belize City. Close to six hour bus ride from Placencia back to BC. Of course, you could fly and it would much less time, but you'd need to route through Belize City.

If you really just want to fish and dive, look at the atolls, or maybe Southwater Caye. I'm not familiar with the areas, but, do some looking around and you might find something you like.

If you think you'd rather be on Ambergris, I have lots of suggestions.

What kind of fishing is your husband interested in?

We have great fishing and diving along our 190 mile long barrier reef and on the atolls. Ambergris Caye is our most visited and is less than a mile from the reef. Placencia has a smaller quainter village and is closer to mainland day trips and is 19 miles from the reef. Hopkins an even more laid back coastal village 10 miles from the reef. The remote atolls would have the best fishing and diving with one lodge per island and offer 3, 4 and 7 night packages, but are isolated from other activities, restautants and bars. Look at the 3 areas I listed above and see which appeals to you. most. They will each have great lodging options for you to consider.
