Hi Linda:

I think you are going to need to be a little more specific. Do you want to stay on one of the islands the whole time, or stay on the mainland, or split your time up? Belize has excellent snorkelling. We stayed in a jungle lodge and took a day trip out to the reef to snorkel, but there are many places to snorkel along the reef. How long are you going to be there? I think splitting your time up between one of the cayes and the mainland would be the best. Do a word search on Belize and you will find many ideas.

Linda,

I have been banging around Belize for a dozen years and have written or co-written six books about the country. In order to answer your question, would need more info on your interets, budget, etc. Belize is not a big country, but it is about 200 miles long and the size of Massachusetts, and there are many different areas from remote islands to mountains.

--Lan Sluder

Linda - I'll be taking my first trip to Belize in several weeks and will post a trip report in this forum around June 5-7 after my return. Obviously I won't be able to offer the expertise that Lan and others have but can offer the perspective of a first time visitor and will be doing some snorkeling. Not sure how old your son is but some of the ionland activities, particularly things such as river tubing trips, sound like they'd be great fun for teens and adults. I am also taking one of those and will include info in my report.

Linda

Belize is great. Not much snorkeling from the beach unless you are out on a Cay, but boat trips to the reef are easy. Lan is being modest, he is the MAN for information on Belize! go to his web page at http://www.belizefirst.com/
try these links
http://www.mayatravelservices.com/
http://ambergriscaye.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true
http://www.belizeforum.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi
