Belize or Costa Rica for Scuba Diving?
My husband, teenage son and I plan to meet up with our other teenage son who will already have spent three weeks in Belize (doing Wilderness Training). All the guys dive and I am interested in any recommendations. Low-key, cost effective is best. Thanks!!

Great diving off Belize, especially off the atolls although spendier than the northern cayes. It's much cheaper to dive off Honduras but you might want to save that for a future trip since one son will already be in Belize. I've read the great diving off Costa Rica is Cocos Island, attainable only on a live-aboard, really expensive and best for advanced divers due to currents.
Our family had a blast in Belize in 2003 and we're looking forward to returning this summer. Hope you have time for some inland activities and ruins, too. Happy trails!

Hello, Belize is much better than Costa Rica for scuba diving. Iv been to both places. Belize has more colorful coral and much more variety of underwater life. I went to Ambergues Key and purchased a day of diving (very low key) We took a little puddle jumper airplane over from the mainland.
Coco Island, 36 hours off western Pacific coast of Costa Rica has the big hammerhead sharks but this diving is only for the very advanced, deep dives and strong currents.
Have a great trip! If you ever want to visit Costa Rica famous for outdoor adventure please check out my blog posts at www.costaricalearn.com
