azteca airlines

Hi there,
these folks have a flight from Cancun to DF advertised on expedia.com that I got really excited about - cos it was affordable - not 3 times as much as a bus, just a little more. But hey, when I went to book expedia want to charge me $37 US to mail me the ticket.

I find this (a) outragously expensive, and (b) enough to make it non-economic for me.

I have tried aazteca.com.mx - everything points to being able to book a one way ticket, but it doesn't work.

So - anyone have the number/email for a travel agency in DF who would book it for me, and hold the ticket for collection, at a price somewhat less than 30% of the cost of the flight (which is what expedia want to charge!!!!!)

I really don't want to do that 20 hour bus trip but if I have to I guess I will ..

Hope someone can help.

I guess Expedia has changed hands. Did they not had a problem with a hotel in NY, that was no hotel but a condo, and people were riped-off ?

Just a note about finding cheap airfares these days for Mexican domestic flights...

There's a couple other good options besides Azteca:

* Interjet: www.interjet.com.mx
Low-cost startup airline. If you're headed to DF, they fly from Cancun into Toluca (TLC), it's a smaller airport about 20-30 miles from Mexico City, and there are buses there that will take into the city, or you could do a taxi.

* Volaris: www.volaris.com.mx
Also flies from Cancun into Toluca (TLC) (or to Guadalajara or Monterrey). When I've checked fares, Interjet seems to often undercut Volaris, though your mileage may vary.

* Aviacsa: www.aviacsa.com.mx
For Cancun to DF, they fly into MEX. Low-cost carrier with extensive route map and a more direct competitor to Aeromexico and Mexicana. Has U.S. ticketing offices and they don't charge you extra to mail a paper ticket (or you can do e-tickets). In U.S., call them at 1-800-967-5263. In Mexico, call them at 01-800-AVIACSA. If you call on Tuesdays, they give you discounted fares. An excellent option for Americans who don't want to deal with high paper ticketing fees from Expedia, Travelocity, etc.

Hope it helps,
Mark

Thank you tiogringo. Interjet looks good. Forgive me though - sometimes what looks like a bargain turns out not to be cos it costs an arm and a leg to get to/from an out of the way airport. Stanstead is a classic example!!

So - there are buses from Toluca to DF?
I will now go off and see what I can find out about them. But anything you can tell me would be much appreciated seeing as you have already done it.

You see, if I have to take a taxi from Toluca then it may end up costing me more than flying with azteca despite expedia's outrageous charges.

Thx for your help.

How much cheaper can you get?

For a mere difference of $37 you'd take a dusty, bumpy 20-hour bus trip?

No idea what ground transportation would cost in Toluca, but I've seen Volaris ads saying that they run a free shuttle bus for their passengers between the Toluca airport and their Santa Fe terminal in Mexico City (though Santa Fe isn't exactly "downtown", it's a good chunk of the way there).

Have fun!

Bill boy - the difference to be precise is as follows:

Bus from Chetumal to DF - approx 80us. Azteca flight 115 US + 37US postage + cost of getting from to/airport at both ends. Let's say a difference of 80us = 105aud which to me is an amount of money worth thinking about. A couple of nights' accommo at my end of the scale.

What's your scale? Maybe that would explain our misunderstanding.

Thx again tio. It goes again the grain but I think I will splurge on that flight.

Only 2 and a bit weeks to go!!

fuzzylogic,

There's no misunderstanding, afaic.

it's easy. I know that I'm willing to pay more than the difference that you calculated, since I find my time, convenience and lifestyle more valuable.

Hi, fuzzylogic,

if you are still deciding on Azteca, please do a search on this forum under "Azteca" regarding my experience of booking a ticket through expedia on Azteca. The flights I booked were cancelled not long after I bought the tickets (and paid $25 for mailing harrd copy tickets), and I ended up doing a charge back through my credit card company. (Azteca cancelled flights on both the outbound and return dates, with the only options being to fly two completely different days). Funnier still, I got an email last week from expedia saying Azteca had made a major change to the schedule again (even though I no longer am holding the tickets, as I sent them back when I did my credit card charge-back). I'd stick with Aeromexico or Aeromar.
