Anyone stayed at the Villa Mexicana in Zihuatanejo?

Just wondering if anyone has stayed here and what you thought of it. How were the accomadations, beach, etc. Easy access to eating places. Thanks for your help. Pam

Hi Pam,
When we were there we stayed in Ixtapa. However, I can answer your question about beach. La Ropa is a beach in Zihuat. It's a long stretch of beach (1-2 miles?) with wonderful seafood restaurants all along it. Sports Illustrated shot a swimsuit issue there and it was on their front cover. A great mix of locals and tourists. Just take a taxi but make sure you ask the taxi driver how you get down there. It can be kind of tricky.

Hi Pam,
I stayed at this hotel about 3 years ago and loved it!!! It was very sweet. It had just been renovated and it it only has about 60 rooms. The rooms were basic but very nice and clean. The bathroom had a huge showere that was great. La Ropa beach is very nice and calm. There are tons of restaurants all within walking distance. The Hotel also has a restaurant and the food was very good. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me at [email protected].
Happy Travels,
Jill

La Ropa is a wonderful beach. I have been to Zihua twice, always staying on La Ropa, although I have not stayed at VM. I've heard good stories, and BAD. Apparently the rooms vary quite a bit, and you can't ask for a specific room; most people seem to end up changing rooms after they arrive. A friend who stayed there a few years ago was robbed (stuff taken from his room) -- I've also read a few robbery stories on some Zihua bulletin boards, but I don't think any of them are too recent.
It's a great location, and I believe some of the rooms are great -- you just need to make sure you get one of those rooms!

Thanks for all the replies! We've been to Ixtapa but stayed in the hotel zone at the Barcelo. Ventured into Zihua to eat and take a sunset cruise, but thought maybe we'd like to stay there sometime. Now that we've been to most of the vacation spots in Mexico, we're looking at some of the places we missed and would like to spend our vacation at. Zihua is one of those places. Also considering Isa Mujeres, and Playa del Carmen.
Pam
