Any info on Hotel Quito?!

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any info or has stayed at Hotel Quito? My daughter is going on a mission trip this summer and this is the hotel they are staying at. I looked it up online and it looks ok but I was looking for some reasureance I suppose. Not that the hotel can be changed but just curious. She is just turning 14 and I am the nervous Mom!
Thanks, April

Hi April,
I used to live next door to the Hotel Quito. The neighborhood is a nice middle class area although it is on top of a hill and it is about a 10 minute walk down to stores and restaurants etc. If you haven't looked already please check out tripadvisor.com for some reviews. The Hotel Quito used to be one of the two best hotels in Quito but it's now a bit old and dated. I'm sure that your daughter will be fine there but she shouldn't expect luxury.

I have stayed in aparthotels near the Hotel Quito several times. I like the area, and believe it is safer than staying in the heart of the tourist district...Mariscal Sucre.

I am sure that whoever is directing the program knows this, but the kids should not be allowed to go out at night by themselves.

Thanks for both of the above posts!! This was the exact info I hoped to receive!! I feel the mission company and chaperones are great but I will definately advise my daughter on my own also. She is very well traveled but I am still a Mom and I suppose it is my responsibility to worry and lecture.

Thanks again for your reassurances.

The rooms off the back of the hotel have peaceful mountain, valley and garden views. The front rooms will be smelly and noisy from the streets below. Stayed there in Jan 2006, 3 nights.

Cab fare was very inexpensive thruought the city. Be sure to eat at Mama Clorinda's for "authentic" Ecuadorian food at reasonable prices.
