Any good hotels in Lima ??

I'm looking for recommendations for good hotels in Lima that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Have been thinking of Antigua Miraflores, but would like something on the beach, if possible (maybe I'm asking too much...)

Any of y'all have some good recent experience in Lima ???

Thanks,
Mark

I stayed in the Antigua Miraflores in November. Excellent location. There is a very good Dutch restaurant just down the block . It was a good mile or so from the beach. We walked down there, had lunch at La Rosa Nautica, so so service, excellent food...the corbina was fantastic. Lima is not my favorite big city but it was neither as dirty or as awful as I had been led to believe. We spent two full days there, good museums, excellent restaurants and very very nice people. If you decide to head to Agua Caliente or Cusco, let me know. I have a couple of restaurant suggestions.

In Agua Calientes we had three excellent meals at the Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.
In Cuzco we ate at the Inka Grill (loved the music and the food) and had a wonderful meal in the MAP Grill which is owned by the same people who own the Inka Grill. It is in a courtyard of a new museum. We were the only people there both times and we loved it!

PS on the restaurant suggestions, one of the worst meals I had in Peru (or anywhere else for that matter) was at the entrance to Machu Picchu. Take a picnic from Agua Caliente

Yes, food on site at Machu Pichu is the worst. As for a good restaurant is Cusco, I agree the the Inka Grill is good. It is also very expensive. For something more local I recommend Los Candalas, which is just off the plaza. Ask for a table in the back room - very cozy.

TioGringo... I've looking at your posts and your website. I am interested to know what you do? Do you travel alone? You do a great job with reviews and indepth information I, well, just wish I knew more about YOU.
Also, my boss is threatening to send me to Sao Paulo for a week or two... scares the crap out of me. Have you been there?

Hey!

Thanks all for the VERY useful advice -- both for the vote of approval on Antigua Miraflores and for the tips on Cusco and Aguas Calientes (I especially appreciate the "heads up" about the lousy food at Machu Pichu -- life is too short to eat badly).

Tx -- drop me an email and we can chat -- I work in the software business and travel just for fun (every chance I get). Fortunately for me, it's both EASY and CHEAP to get into latin america when you're based in Texas...so even a long weekend is enough of an excuse to get me to hop a plane headed south...

Have fun!
Mark
