I was thinking about booking a vacation in Cabos until I read all the feedback. Now I think I'll go to Puerto Vallarta. I love it there. Is it that bad in Cabos? I've heard so much about it.

Is it that bad?

No it's WORSE!!!

Most people who have a s***** time just don't bother to go back-you have to be really PO'd to post the details.

PV is also brutally expensive so be prepared.

Just came back from Cabo and was extremely disappointed. Gross Americans everywhere renting ATVs and wave runners, anything that uses gas and pollutes. Playa Medano had a black oil slick its full length on the sand. Also, too expensive.

In response to the post above from El Chile:

Puerto Vallarta does not have to be "brutally expensive". I have spent 14 vacations there, so I know what I am talking about. Just don't stay in the high-end resorts or eat in the most expensive of tourist restaurants.

In the Old Town or El Centro areas there are lots of lovely small to medium size Mexican hotels in the $40-95US/night range. Breakfasts $3-5US, lunches $5-7US, dinners $5-20US. Local bus 4 peso, taxi cab within town 25 pesos. Gatorade, beer, soda pop under $1US at a corner store.

I stayed at the Hotel Finisterra about 2 years ago and it was fantastic. It's a little bit out of town (walking distance) but it has it's own beach and was absolutely beautiful.
My wife and I take our 3 daughters to Cabo every year. Like Cat, we stay at the Finisterra. I think it's the oldest hotel in Cabo, but it is absolutely wonderful. The service is great, the rooms are beautiful, but quaint. We don't really mind the ATVs and Waverunners and stuff, and we have NEVER seen an "oil slick" on the beach -- Playa Medano or elsewhere. We like it a lot, and have learned how to settle in for a long vacation there without spending very much money. Like anything else, you just need to know how to do it. Don't let them scare you away. You can email me if you like.
