Vacationed in Peru for 11 days in Sept. It was my best trip ever. We spent 3 days at ExplorNapo Camp about 100 miles from Iquitos. Just did short hikes near the camp. Saw birds but few animals. Rafted one day in Urubamba Valley. Water was high from El Nino. Rapids were fun -- but not too challenging. We visited Cusco, Machu Picchu, and Nasca Lines. Needed more time but truly enjoyed the Peruvian culture.

Bob-
Just returned from 2 weeks in Peru. We loved it. We spent 5 days at the Tambopata Research Center and Posasda Amazonas Lodge. Posada is about an hour from Puerto Maldonado, while TRC is a 5 hour boat ride up the Tambopata River. If you have the time definitely visit TRC. You visit the largest (?) macaw clay lick in the world. It's unbelievable to see these birds. During the afternoons you do jungle treks and we various tons of animals and birds. We also did the 4 day inca trail trek which was amazing, but be careful of the altitude.

Hi Bob
Peru is an amazing country. Check out Arequipa, The Colca Canyon, The Cordillera Blanca, Manu National Park, The Inca Trail, Puno and Lake Titicacca. Check out BikeHike Adventures at http://www.bikehike.com they're specialists in Peru.

Bob,
Agree with Linda, try the ExplorNapa Lodge. Very remote and quiet. You can walk easily thru the rainforest to the Canopy Walkway. And take boat rides to see the animals and villages. They have a web site www.explorama.com. Hopefully, you'll have Julio as a guide!

We spent 3 weeks in Peru. The Amazon, Machu Picchu (a must as well!), Cuzco, Lake Titicaca, Paracas, Ballestas Islands and Nazca.

You'll LOVE the Peruivan culture. They are warm, friendly, happy people. Food is great..very flavorful. Great beer..we like Cusqueno the best.

Just a comment for what it's worth. We went mainly to see the Inca civilizations, and they were absolutely wonderful. Machu Picchu with the Andes behind it is a breath taking place. But...we liked the Amazon experience most. Perhaps it was just so different from anything we have done.

Sooooo, have a great time in Peru. It's a magical place!!
