I stayed at Las Brisas a year ago. It was my first trip to Acapulco and I had always wanted to go. I loved Las Brisas. Maybe it is a bit dated, and there certainly are more luxurious hotels to be found, but the service was great and everyone was always smiling and friendly which goes a long way for me. I also enjoyed the beach club. Acapulco was, compared to any other resort town I have visited, a large city. There was tons of traffic, construction, pollution, etc. It was also very Mexican, which I loved. There were comparatively few gringos around. Seemed to be a huge emphasis on over the top clubs and staying up until dawn. I loved the whole experience but would say it depends on what you are looking for. Also, I was there with a Mexican friend who knew Acapulco well and was a fabulous host. I think I might have had a more difficult time trying to figure it out for myself. I don't think it is a very good spot for snorkeling, especially compared to the Yucatan. If you decide to go, look at luxurylink.com, I got a great deal there.

I posted almost the same question a few days ago this no response. here's what i wrote then........19 years ago we stayed at the Las Brisas Resort in Acapulco Mexico for our honeymoon. We are now planning our 20th wedding anniversary and are again considering the Las Brisas. Throughout the years we have recalled so many beautiful and wonderful times that we had there originally. Our trip was perfect from the time we left the states until we returned. Not a single thing went wrong. We were absolutely so mesmerized and enchanted with the resort that we want to go back but I have read some not so good things about it, such as run down, poor service and that they have even changed management and are no longer owned or part of the Westin Hotel chain.

Does anyone have any very recent experiences in stay at Las Brisas?? I would love to hear them good or bad. Thanks so much.

Hi
it depends what you want from Acapulco.
I was there over Christmas and stayed at the Costa Club.
It is right in the centre of the big arc called Acapulco Bay.
On one side of the hotel is the Bay and on the other side is the "strip", so you can wonder around at night and people watch, mainly the cute Mexican kids.
There is a very nice large air conditioned Mall right next door to the Costa Club...you might say ," a Mall??", I can see a mall at home, but believe me when it is 95 F that air conditioned mall is a blessing to just walk around and browse.
I do not recall any place called Las Brisas, but then maybe the name changed.
The Costa Club has changed names twice.

I took a side trip to Taxco, the silver capital.
I had some very good tours and really saw all of Acapulco ,not just the tourist area.
I really liked Acapulco.
I do not think Acapulco is getting run down, it is a busy place with the cruise ships coming in also.
Acapulco used to be the number one spot in Mexico but you know how tourists are, they are always seeking something new....so now I think it is Cancun!
Do not know about snorkeling as I do not snorkel.
Have a nice time there,I am sure you will.

We always stay at Acapulco Princess so cannot comment on Las Brisas, however, the purpose of my reply is to say that the most awesome restaurant in all of Mexico is right across the street from Las Brisas. Ristorante CasaNova. It is not casual and not cheap, but it is MAGNIFICENT!!! http://www.hamacas.com.mx/casanova/ingles.html

Hi
The trip to Taxco took one full day .We left in the morning and came back to Acapulco about7:30 PM but we stopped along the way on the way back for a snack. The trip included lunch at a roof top restaurant with nice views.
In Taxco everything is Silver as it is billed as the Silver Capital of the world. I did not buy any silver.
The scenery and trip was nice.
He is what I would do if I was you:
1. Hire a private tour guide to tour you to all the tourist spots of Acapulco.
You will see the Cliff Divers , where the Elvis Presley movie was made.
You will also see the very nice Acapulco Princess which is removed from the main downtown area of Acapulco, you will also see the nice home with a million dollar view that Sylvestor Stallon still owns.
It is only a few buck more to hire a private tour guide, but WORTH it.
2. Then on the next tour a day or so later, ask your driver to take to all the places in Acapulco that tourists do not usually visit and man , now you will see the real Acapulco, our guide took us to the Pacific Ocean(not that far) and we sat and watched the sunset.
Then we saw where the Rambo movie was filmed.
You are sitting in a car and not a tour bus..so you are one on one with the driver, he will tell you things that perhaps on a 12-14 person tour he would not say.!!!
This private tour guide for 3 hours cost me $30.00 US (for my wife and I ).
If you want to see the Mexican Country side and visit this hillside village of Taxco , then the tour is great ,just to be out in the country for the day, because in Acapulco you are like on the Las Vegas strip."
At the Costa Club the head Tour Guide is Celso Lopez and he can get a private driver for you or at least where you are in a group of about six.
Tell Celso that Percy Doonanco from Edmonton Alberta told you to ask for him.
Celso knows me very well,he just sent me an e - mail last week to tell me things were kind of slow in Acapulco right now. We e- mail each other about 6-8 times a year, so this will not be a case of him saying , "Percy Who???"

Have a good time there
Percy
