6 Days in Placencia... too long?

My boyfriend and I are travelling to Belize in February. We were planning to spend a couple days in and around Belize city and then 6 days in Placencia.
We are looking for somewhere relaxing, but we also want to go on a few day trips, snorkeling, to some ruins, and possibly some others.
Is 6 days in Placencia too long? Is it easy to arrange day trips out of Placencia? Or are there any other itinerary recommendations?
Thanks for any help you can give!

I would forget any time in or around Belize City. Loved Placencia the last 2 years I was there. We did snorle trip, sailing trip, Monkey River trip. Had a car, so went to the Zoo 1 day. Love the place!

I will second CaymanSue's response.I've stayed in Belize city and will not return if given the choice. Also I love Placencia. On our first trip to Belize in 2001 we stayed at Kitty's for five nights .When we returned in 2003 we rented one of her cabins for a week. Both times felt to short. Great food, great beaches, great people, great snorkeling and about as layed back a place as I've ever been. Have fun.

I could easily do six days in Placencia. But, I'd head to the San Ignacio area first, rather than staying around Belize City. Two nights there really wasn't long enough when we were there in May. So, maybe three nights in the Cayo and five Placencia???

I'd do Jean H's idea. A couple of days in San Ignacia (The Aguada) for caving and jungle and the rest at Placencia (Westwinds). You can take a A/C bus from Belize City to SI for just a couple of bucks. When your ready to head to Placencia take a 'chicken bus' down hummingbird hwy (beautiful) to Dangriga and just puddle jump on a plane the rest of the way. Fun way to surf and turf!!!
