6 day Belize itinerary help

Hi everybody-

Just looking for some help on a good itinerary for my husband and I in February. We will be flying out on Sunday night and returning the following Sunday afternoon. We love to do adventurous activities and also love to snorkel...possibly might try diving?? I would like to have some time to relax but also some adventure. Would also like advice on some nice hotels (not more than $250/night).

Thank you so much for your help!

Plenty of good options on that price range and I'd sugggest you consider splitting the trip between the beach and a lodge on the mainland. I prefer the Cayo district for all it has to offer. For beach, look at Ambergris or Placencia and Hopkins.

We are going to Hamanasi Resort near Hopkins in Jan.'08. We have heard it offers both land tours and dive and snorkel outings daily. It is within you budget for the rooms with A/C but if you take the 5, 6, 7 day package it includes meals, the flight from Belize City (10 -15 min.)and daily diving and snorkeling and several land tours. We are paying $1800/person with tax/service for 7 nights for my wife and I all inclusive. Five or six nights obviously is proportionally less. But there are other places that are 10-20% less expensive but I understand they are not as well run or maintained.

Get out of Belize City as fast as you can. We did and loved our vacation. We spent 4 nights at Chaa Creek Lodge near Guatamalan border. Fun canoeing, Mayan ruins, great bird watching, horseback riding. They will also arrange caving tours etc. We didn't do that but wished now we had. Then we headed south to Jaguar Reef Lodge in Hopkins. I hear now it's turned timeshare but at the time our little cottage with a/c, bottled drinking water and fridge was less than $200. There were two great pools and you're right on the beach. We did the lodge's snorkling tour to the barrier reef and it was awesome. We went in to the town to eat and to the nearby forest preserve to hike and swim in waterfall pools (didn't see but one other couple the whole time.)

Hi PG,

We did a trip for pretty much the same amount of time last year. I meant to write up a trip report, but somehow it never happened! So, rather than hijacking your post, I will write up a sperate trip report, and you can check it out.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have - I know we had a million. I also totally recommend using Katie Valk as a travel agent - she really knows the area; her advice was invaluable, and her recomendations were spot on. And she's there in Belize if any problems come up.
