2 or 3 nights in Santiago?
We only have 13 days in Chile, with a 4 day trip to Bariloche. Do you recommend 2 or 3 nights in Santiago? I am also having trouble chosing between Atton El Bosque and Hotel Orly. Any thoughts on this? Cheers

What time of year are you coming? This could influence how long you should stay in the city. Do you like cities or more fond of the outdoors?
Both hotels are very good. The Orly is smaller. personally, I think the Atton is better placed.

Thank you Huentetu! We are coming in December 19 to January 1. I have just reserved the Atton, I appreciate the recommendation. I can not believe how affordable Chile is. I think I am leaning towards just two nights, as we prefer the outdoors mainly.

The Atton El Bosque is a very good hotel and the hotel restaurant is making a name for itself locally. Their other hotel, which is mainly used by businessmen and not well located for a tourist, is always full.
Two nights would give you a chance to visit the city but remember that you can do day trips from Santiago to both the coast and vineyards.
If you are thinking of either long distance bus or flights south, book the flights soon as Christmas is a busy season. You can't book the bus from abroad but could do it as soon as you arrive.

If you are interested in visiting a winery, both the Concha y Toro and Cousino Macul winerys are easily reached by metro (subway). Very easy to get to, inexpensive, and a good tasting experience. Have your hotel call ahead for reservation.

Thank you both. We are in the El Bosque property. I have already used mileage points to get to Santiago, via Boston, Miami. But, I went to the LAN web site to try and book intra flights and it only allows you to book 6 months out. We do plan to visit Bariloche for three nights, take the boat over, and rent a car.

<But, I went to the LAN web site to try and book intra flights and it only allows you to book 6 months out.> If booked in conjunction with an international flight on a OneWorld carrier (i.e., via the Visit South America Pass), you should be able to book LA flights 330 days out.

The Orly is wonderful. We spent five nights there, lovely room, great breakfast, great other guests, terrific location, we walked everywhere. Dinner there on the patio was terrific. The staff was so accommodating! Hated to leave.
Have fun!

<I hope they will let me, even if the international leg is a non-revenue ticket.> I'm pretty sure they will. I think the key is that the flight into the country be on OneWorld metal. Call the AA round-the-world desk or the RTW desk of one of the other OneWorld airlines. The rates are pretty good and you can even change the dates/times without penalty.
