1st trip to Mexico, advice needed

My bf and I are in our 20's (no kids) and would like to take our first trip to an all inclusive resort in Mexico and have no idea what we are doing. We would like to go somewhere with many resort daytime activities and nightlife and a good choice of restaurants, minimum 4 star hotel, we'll prob do a 4-5 night stay. Here are some question, it would be great if anyone has some advice!

-We can go in may july or late august (which is best weather?)
-location (riviera maya, playa del carmen...)?
-Any specific resorts to recommend?

Our budget can go to around 2000 canadian $$.

Thanks! CoR

I have never stayed at Playa Del Carmen but from my daytime visits there is plenty to do. It is a mini city with bars competing to see who has the loudest music. I have often wondered about the noise at night. We have stayed at the Dreams and Baha Principa resorts they were both great but no real night life. I think the Principa has nicer beaches and pools for kids. You can always cab into Playa Del Carmen for around $40 but then you are driving out at night( it should be okay but have never attempted it, have seen people poured out of there cabs who have) There are 2 water parks located near the Mayan where you can see all types of fish, swim with the dolphins and spend the whole day. Different tours leave the area so you can check with your hotel. My only concern about your dates is huricane season so just check the stats because I don't know about the weather in the summer other than it would be hot. Make sure you bring the biggest insulated cup you can find so when you are at the pool you don't go thirsty. Have fun. American money is just as good as Mexican but know you exchange rates as the local population does and they can make extra money if they add another 30% becuase you are paying with a different currency than they quoted you.

I would say May would be best. It is HOT HOT HOT in the summer. Check out the Royal Playa del Carmen. It is an adults only all inclusive and is right in the town of Playa. Just a five minute walk and you're on 5th Ave. with all the shops, bars, etc. Service and food is great at the Royal.

July into August is the rainy season in the places you mention (actually for most coastal regions in Mexico) not really the best time for your trip. Save it for sometime when you can go November thru April months.
