Zurich Guide copyright question

I spent a long time pulling all the recommendations for restaurants and local activities/day trips in/from Zurich from the Europe board and cutting and pasting them all together for my own use here in Zurich when I have company or want to try a new restaurant, museum or outing.

I think most of what I have is pretty verbatim from posts made by Cicerone and Cimbrone and possibly a few others but their names are no longer associated in my document with their individual contributions.

As I mentioned, this is not my material - just compiled by me from this board.

Well, I'd love to share all this with those here on Fodor's interested in Zurich and Switzerland but wondered if that was in some way a violation of the original contributors copyrights?

any thoughts or experiences with this?

Interesting. Section 5 (b) of the subscriber's agreement on the site says, among other things:

"the entire contents of the Web site are copyrighted as a collective work under the United States copyright laws. The Online Service Provider owns and/or controls copyright in the selection, coordination, arrangement and enhancement of such content, as well as in the content original to it. Subscriber may not modify, publish, transmit, participate in the transfer or sale, create derivative works, or in any way exploit, any of the content, in whole or in part. Subscriber may download copyrighted material for Subscriber's personal use only. Except as otherwise expressly permitted under copyright law, no copying, redistribution, publication or commercial exploitation of downloaded material will be permitted without the express permission of the Online Service Provider and the copyright owner. In the event of any permitted copying, redistribution or publication of copyrighted material, no changes in or deletion of author attribution, trademark, legend or copyright notice shall be made."

Which rather sounds as though you're OK as long as it is entirely for your personal, rather than commercial use.

Patrick,

That's what I thought too when I read it so I'm not concerned about my own copy. But, if I re-post it here on Fodors for others here to use is that OK?

I think Fodors is only concerned if you try to make money off of the information posted here, which is what THEY want to do, as they have copywrited the material submitted by others on this site, which is quite strange (and I have my doubts as to its enforceability to be honest as an attorney). But in any event, if you are going to post it all again here, I would not have any concerns.

One point to note. You often confuse me and Cimbrone. You just did it the other day in response to the poster called Kathysa on a post called "5 Hour Layover in Zurich". I don't think Cimbrone actually posts much on Zurich. While I don't want to take credit for every post on Zurich, I would like to distinguish myself and Cimbrone so I can take responsibility for any mistakes or out of date info in my own posts which may be inadvertently attributed to Cimbrone if you combine all the posts.

Cicerone,

Yes, I realized I had done that and my apologies!! and I do think most of my information is actually from your various posts... I just put it all together separating into restaurants, excursions, museums, etc...

I just thought it would save you retyping everything every time someone asks the same questions...I was all set to post it and then I realized it would have my name on it not yours which didn't seem right...it's not my information - it's yours - and you should get the "credit" for being so helpful and well-informed.
