Zurich Area Hotel

Can someone suggest a cute town near Zurich which can be reached directly from the Zurich Flughafen station. My flight arrives too late in the day to make it to my destination of Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen area, so would like a hotel in a village on the way to there. Or . . . . if any suggestions for Zurich itself. $150 max for night stay.

Hi eurogals,

I think Luzern would be your best bet as it's only an hour by direct train from the Zurich airport, and it's on the way for one routing.

I was going to suggest Zug as a quaint small town (I've never been there, but I've read great things about it here). However, you would need to change trains, either at Zurich HB or Thalwil (sp?).

So, I'd either stay in Zurich near the train station or in Luzern.

You can reach Zug non-stop from the Flughafen. A very pleasant small old town area on the water. The Hotel Ochsen is wonderful but perhaps outside of your price range. There are other hotels there but I don't know anything about them.

My wife and I are staying at the Welcome Inn Hotel in a little town - Kloten, Switzerland - just north of the Zurich Flughaften station. It is only a five minute drive. Our confirmed rate for night of June 28th is 141 CHF, double room with bath, about $113.00 to $120.00, depending on conversion rates at the time. They will pick you up at the airport and take you back the next morning. We stayed there once before. Contact Welcome Inn at [email protected] for info and rates. Breakfast is extra charge.

Luzern is about where you want to stop to break that trip up but its hardly a "cute" town....great town though but probably a bit busy to try and navigate and settle for just one transit night. I'd suggest to mush on just a wee bit further there are some towns with good hotels in that stretch of road....or really you aren't too far from your destination at that point, it really isn't a long drive from Zurich. Not sure what time your flight gets in but mid or early afternoon just drive to Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen area, late afternoon perhaps stop at Zug, if evening find something near the airport or Zurich itself. Happy travels.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Im going to look into Zug. Sounds like it might be interesting. Have been to Luzern twice before, nice place, but want something different. Appreciate all the suggestions.

Please come back here with your choice and your impressions re Zug. It's a place on my to-do list, along with the possibility of staying in a smaller village, Walchwil, just a bit farther along the lake towards Lucerne. J.

Hi,

A nice hotel close to the main train station is the St. Josef just up from Central.
It is probably about a 10min walk with luggage (5 min without). The hotel is below the steps leading up to the ETH and on the edge of the old town. Rates are 145.- SFr per night.

A girlfriend came to visit us recently and stayed there for a few nights. She thought it was great.
Kloten is not particulary attractive.

Trains run from the main station (HB) to the airport every 5-10 minutes and it is only a 10 min train ride to the airport from the HB.
