PeaceOUt, chances maybe you won't go back. But for me, chances are I will. I like returning to places and exploring more deeply, and at a leisurely pace. Others prefer to see as many places as possible. Why cringe just because people do things differently?

Re: planning. I'm planning all the time. I have 2 or 3 future trips cooking on the back burner. Every now and then I add a new ingredient gleaned from Fodors. And then I have a collection of notes for future trips.

I think there's a gene for planning. My son certainly has inherited the travel planning gene.
