York accommodations within the walls

Hello:

I would very much appreciate any recommendations of places to stay within the walls of York. Also, I can't seem to find a comprehensive website that shows on a map which places are within the old part. Any ideas?

TIA

Hi - I'm a local so haven't stayed in any of these, but the following are within or just outside of the Bar Walls and have good local reputation. Some are your usual chain hotels some are smaller, independents.

Monk Bar Hotel
The Royal York
York Viking Moat House
Lady Anne Middletons
Stakis York
Queens Hotel
York Hilton

A novel place to stay is the Bar Convent - check the website for more info.

Another decent web site is www.thisisyork.co.uk

This link is a search of hotels with map attachments :

Hope this assists you some and have a great trip to York. Feel free to contact me if you need any more info.

i dont know what you are looking for but we stayed at a great place called york backpackers. it is a hostel but it was huge and very inexpensive. we had a room that was 500 s.f. i think all of the rooms are shared bathrooms but i don't know. they have a web site that i think i yorkbackpackers.com. it is located within the walls and near the train museum.

I was glad to see this subject come up since I am also planning a visit to York when I'm in the UK next spring. I've been looking at the listing for a B & B called Roman Bath in York city center - seems to be over a pub - anyone know anything about this establishment?

Also to "designwright" (BTW are you an architect?) try www.multimap.com and zoom in on York and you should be able to find the details you're looking for.
