I received a good quote that was given both ways
Basic rate vs Inclusive rate, which still doesn't cover the super CDW.
Do I waive the super CDW large amount and pay it daily or what? I am so flipping confused. I do not have a World CC so it is not an option for me. Please help.

The company is Irelandtouring out of WA and the inclusive rate does include the CDW but not the super CDW. Deductible is $2240 and they state I can pay the super CDW for $17 daily when I pick up the car. I do have a Citi CC that is a MC so if I use it, what does that change? Also, is $395 for 9 days a reasonable rate? (that is the inclusive rate-basic is $295)

Apparently not just any MC will work to avoid the CDW -- it has to be a WORLD Master Card (some people get one just for this purpose). Fodorites advise checking and rechecking that your CC will cover CDW in Ireland -- most won't.

Can't advise whether $395 (inclusive) is a good rate-- depends on time of year, size of car, manual vs automatic, number of drivers, etc. PS - the rental company I'm using will charge me $13/day for Super CDW if I sign up before I leave -- I can also sign up for it when I pick up the car, but rate is higher.

Can't speak for World master card but our AmEx car insurance excludes Ireland.

You have to ask the issuer of your CC.

I was one of those who obtained a World Mastercard to cover the CDW. I went to various websites and found a Citi AAdvantage World Mastercard (beginning with 5466) solely to save the cost of the CDW. Worked like a charm.

I'm too cheap to pay for CDW but too nervous not to have it.

You could try this - we did in Ireland last year - much cheaper than the rental company charges, for more cover.

My MC CC gave me an 800 no. to call and I was told NOT to purchase additional CDW insurance, that I will be covered. I'll call again before I leave to make sure this is true.

Peg, can I ask you which car rental company you used? We rented a car through Dan Dooley three years ago. Even though we had a World MC we chose to pay for the super CDW. In part because I'd read horror stories of bad experiences settling claims through the MC insurance and in part because Dooley would have put a huge hold on our card if we chose to use the MC CDW.

We're going to be renting a car again in June and I keep going back and forth on whether to take advantage of the MC CDW. We had no damage on our car the last time. But since this trip is for our daughter's wedding and her in-laws live in a rural area, we'll be driving lots of the small, winding roads...

Thanks for all the advice-I did finally talk with MC and they emailed me a document, they say I am covered for up to 50K and NOT to get the super CDW since MC will cover the outrageous deductible amount too. Now, I have looked up a bunch of rentals and am deciding between three. Anyone have an opinion or experience with-1.Europcar 2.Autoeurope 3.Travelocity(they have good Ireland rates)TIA

AutoEurope is a broker or middleman, and it often provides rentals through Europcar as well as Hertz and Avis, for example. The choices differ from country to country. We got the best rate for our May trip to Ireland through Conn O'Scannlain of Journey through Ireland at (800)828-0826. Good luck!

I may be repeating information you already have but DO NOT buy any CDW, regular or super, if you intend for your MC to cover. You must decline all CDW on the contract or your credit card coverage is void.
