I got it! I got it! The envelope had a hole, but still had the pin inside and had 2 postmarks. The post office had placed it inside another envelope with a "sincere apology for the enclosed document that was inadevertently damaged in handling by your Postal Service." They continue
"We are aware how important your mail is to you" (they have no idea!!) etc etc etc for 4 more paragraphs.

Fodor's you have some 'splaining to do to the Post Office.

It actually is a really nice pin and Art I feel bad for you. Thanks Fodors. It really is good advertising though. Youll have to have a second edition.

My husband thinks I am really weird and cannot believe I am going to walk around with it. It scares me to think that he is right and I am now an official pin-carrying member of a dubious fraternity and am now advertising to the world that I spend half my life on an internet forum.

The other interesting question (besides the one about when and where did I exactly lose my sanity) is with 500 pins produced (and possibly 10 to 15 % of them lost) is how many sightings there will actually be. Hmm, 6 billion people in the world, 425 pins....

We'll have to have a "sightings site".

Received the empty Fodors envelope today - inside the USPS envelope used for identifying (and apologizing for) damaged mail. The Fodors envelope had two postmarks...the first, May 21, NY; the second, May 24, also NY. I guess this means the envelope didn't make it outside NY...and my guess is there is a postal facility in NY with many pins on the floor!

Could someone scan a picture of their pin and post it here? At least then I'd know what I missed!

I'm sad in North Carolina!

Got mine in North Carolina last Friday. My wife got to the mail before I saw it. She said there was a small hole in the envelope, but the pin looked fine. I too am of the group that wonders if I will actually wear it that often when abroad. I will probably try to find some way to attach it to my camera bag (which is usually with me) without punching a hole in it.

Got mine in the UK yesterday, not even a hole in the envelope.

I know this is easy for me to say having got a pin, but I think it is a little rude to slag off fodors for using cheap envelopes when sending out a COMPLIMENTARY gift, at a time when budgets are being cut to the extent of redundancies.

It was possible the case that the pins were commissioned, then the redundancies announced, and then a decision made to send them out anyway but to minimise costs as much as possible.

However it might be worth them finding out how many people would be willing to pay $5 dollars to buy one and cover costs and postage?

Just an idea...

I dont think I will wear mine on safari in June but will wear it in SF in July.

Kavey

At this rate I'll see neither the pin nor an empty envelope with a hole. But if it does arrive [the envelope] it will certainly be like Lisa's
