Dear aggiemom
I wouldn't change a thing (other than the required correction, of course). While France didn't go as planned, this was certainly a memorable trip for you, and proof of how the two of you have weathered the 'for worse', as well as the 'for better'.
Now a note of encouragement: It's been just over two years since I had my own DVT and I've had a complete recovery, so these things do often resolve completely, as I hope they will for your husband.
Now, you'll just have to plan another trip to Paris, so he can have a proper venue in which to present you with the (revised) bracelet!

sal - yes, he DOES resemble that remark! (Who was it that said that originally?) I have been thinking of not changing the engraving at all, too - keeping the mistake and everything. And, sorry, but I'm pretty sure I'll keep the DH, also, lol!
Sue - so glad your ordeal is over. DVT sure is scary - we all think it won't happen to us. If you don't mind me asking - how far did your clot(s) travel up the leg? The first Doppler exam showed DH's clot to be below the knee. The next day it was up to the top of the thigh. It turns out that he has three clots, so maybe it was just another one they discovered, but we were quite worried at how high it was. They did Doppler his abdomen and chest, as well as x-rays. These were negative.
Jules - yeah, I like your idea, too. You have to keep your sense of humor, right??

P-London - good suggestion. I like it, however, DH speaks no French so I'd have to tell him what to write and that kind of spoils it. The joy comes from reading something he wrote from his heart.
Didn't mean to mislead ayone with the title - babies are sooooo far out of my mind that it never occurred to me. Although, with all the travelers on this board, I betcha we have some GREAT stories!!

Why wouldn't this "interest" a Man????
Why would you not include France? What happened happened and not including the PLACE where it happened is not going to wipe out the memory.
Personally, if the original words were HIS I would accept those for what they are and not change a single letter.

I don't mind you asking but to be honest, I don't know. I was under the impression that an ultrasound could only do so much to localize a clot; that the clot could generally best be detected by ultrasound when it is in a part of the vein that is close to the body surface (as in just behind the knee joint.) My impression might be incorrect, so I'll try to find out for sure. Certainly in my case the clot had 'grown' that far - I could see it on the image monitor for myself - but I don't know exactly how big it was. For all I know it had grown much longer in length, but just couldn't be 'seen' easily further up the leg. Yet you say your husband's doctors could determine it to have reached the upper thigh, if I've understood correctly?
For anyone reading, this is why one should never ignore sudden unexplained 'muscle strains' in the back of one's calf that are followed, as much as a couple days later, by swelling and reddish areas that are warm to the touch. And don't assume that because one hasn't flown recently, that it can't be a DVT - I got mine right here on terra firma, although admittedly after spending too much time at a desk in one position.
Aggiemom, if your husband is on an anticoagulant at the present momemt my sympathies are with him. I loathed being on warfarin - was I glad to get off that drug. The dietary restrictions drove me batty.

Voyager - I guess it sounds sexist, but I felt the "average" man wouldn't be interested in women's jewelry or the attachment a woman feels for it.
My DH has done a really sweet and romantic thing in buying and engraving this bracelet, but overall he is not interested in others' experiences pertaining to this type of thing. He's very sentimental when it comes to me and our girls, but that's about the limit. I just assumed most men would respond like this. Didn't mean any harm.

I too think the original wording should go on the new bracelet.
Part of what you have now is the trip that you two went through together, one of the bumps in the road that you will remember anyway..that gift is also a sort of token of Married through Sickness & Health ..
I love gifts like that, that have many more meanings than just the original .. For our 200th anniversary ( just celebrated) I got a ring. This ring will always be thought of as not only this years anniversary, but the first in our new home and a sort of starting again feeling in our lives.
Keep the wording, it will make it even more special as the years go by.
